We loved this place-it was clean, quiet, and very nicely kept. The staff made a real effort to make you feel welcome. It was nice to take a walk on the bird sanctuary grounds behind the lodge.

The decor was nice and modern, one of the nicest kitchenettes I have ever seen, dishes and kitchen supplies were all matching and good quality. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean and a real effort was made to make the place environmentally friendly. The locally made soaps in each room were a classy touch. Would stay again and highly recommend it.

What more can you say about this exceptional place? The owners are great - the friendliest welcome we have had, was greeted by name on arrival and shown to their newest room. Their work on developing the Lodge is complete. Underfloor heating in the bathroom, a bed the Queen could sleep in, a large screen sat TV and the most comfortable reclining leather armchair you can think of to watch it or rest in. The carpet is so plush you automatically take your shoes off when you enter. The kitchen area is fitted with a cooker and fridge you would like to take home, fully equipped with quality utensils - no plastic here! If you at Elizabeth Lake Lodge, please respect the quality and leave it like this for when we return!

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have a better view of the lake andy

Elizabeth Lake Lodge owners, George and Rachel, not only provide top rate service and well appointed rooms, but their lodge also borders on a delightful wetland park. On our last night there we took the 5 minute walk out to the floating dock on the lake. At this time of year it was still light at 9:30 p.m. Once at the dock we watched a red wing blackbird feed her nestlings, as well as observed coots, grebes, canvas backs, mallards and ruddy ducks feeding. Elizabeth Lake was calm and serene as dusk fell. We sat and just drank in the beauty. As we walked back to our room, we commented that we haven't stayed at many places that have such a wonderful natural setting. During this visit we also walked more of the trails in the park and discovered a new loop walk. George has taken an active leadership role in improving the park trails and just last week directed a group of local volunteers in building a new trail link.
While Elizabeth Lake Lodge is popular with pet owners because of its proximity to the park, we also appreciate that they keep some of their rooms pet free for people like us who need a hypo-allergenic room.
As we talked to other guests, we heard a lot of happy people. One fellow commented on how homey he found it, while another noticed the high quality of the room furnishings. We concurred with them both.
Most Cranbrook hotels and motels are located on the very commercial "Strip." While this may suit some travellers, we find the setting of Elizabeth Lake Lodge delightful. It is definitely a place to stay for more than one night, but if that is all the time you have, make sure that you go for a walk around the park and enjoy watching the wildlife.
We took a tour of the new building and see that there are a variety of room configurations. We stayed in Room 18 which we like because it is roomy and has a couch and reading lamp. I don't really think there is a "best" room. All the rooms have some sort of special feature. The best way to get the best room for your needs is to discuss your preferences with George or Rachel when you make your reservation.

I cannot rate this place 5 stars because of the adjacent train yard. We could feel a vibration from the trains that stopped and ran their engines during the night, which set up a low frequency that was disturbing while trying to sleep. We also heard our neighbors talking and thumping around next door and upstairs. I don't know if it makes any difference, but we were on the ground floor in the old building.

Otherwise, the motel was delightful and the mattress was superb. The building looks like places we have stayed in the Alps -- yellow and white 2-story with red geraniums in the window boxes. Our room had real woods and was nicely finished. We had a lovely view of the lake from the large kitchen table in our cozy king room. The host was friendly, and the wireless connection was excellent. We had a nice walk part way around the lake and watched a tortoise, birds, and ground squirrels. But the vibration from the train engines made it hard to sleep.

Room Tip: Try a room in the newer building

I just finished playing 18 holes of mini golf with George, part of the husband/wife team who own the lodge. Had a great laugh, sadly George beat me but I think he gave me an off-balanced ball. ;-) It's worth staying here just to see if you can beat the course record, it's a TOUGH course but a load of fun.

This is our first time staying at this location and we came here because of the tripadvisor reviews. From the moment we arrived, till the moment I laid back on the super comfy beds, I kept shaking my head wondering how could they be doing so many things right. It's rare to find such high levels of service, friendliness, personality and quality at this price range. We travel a lot and recognize a winning hotel when we see one, the Elizabeth Lake Lodge is now our go-to location in Cranbrook.

And George, I'll be back, except next time I'll choose my own ball.

I have been trying to come up with an opening line to describe this amazing place, and each time I come up with something… it just doesn’t seem to do justice to the lodge! Try thinking of the best hotel you have ever stayed in, and then try imagining it to be 100 times better! This place was the saving grace to our family vacation, and I can only describe it as being not only a wonderful hotel, but run by an amazing family who obviously love what they do and take immense joy and pride in running the absolutely best hotel ever!

This place is not only located in a beautiful setting (right on the edge of a beautiful and scenic bird sanctuary) but is also gorgeous and comfortable inside as well! Right from checking in you notice the difference between any other hotel/motel/inn or lodge that you have ever stayed in! This is more like an amazing bed and breakfast, and is run by a wonderful family who are very courteous and friendly and have amazing and friendly staff!

We had been travelling to Alberta to visit family, and where looking for a place to stay on our way home to BC. Travelling with a young toddler, and a dog, means that your trip not only gets longer because of all the stops, but you also have to worry about where your going to spend the night, and in what kind of hotel room you are going to find yourself. Many of the rooms we have stayed in over the years with a child and dog are not only disgusting and dangerous, but also smell horrible due to deodorizers that they use to mask the smells that occur from them not cleaning the room well. Most places I will not even let my daughter sit on the floor to play which is horrible after having her cooped up in a car seat for hours… where as here… she loved the heated tiles in the bathroom, and everything was sooo immaculately clean that I had absolutely NO problem with her sitting next to the bathtub playing with her dolls! I even joined her sitting on the floor and started to imagine what my dream bathroom would have!

When were checking in at the lodge, we were met by George and his wife Rachael and immediately made to feel like they were not only glad to have us spend the night at the lodge, but old friends! They even gave us an imported chocolate which all of us loved soo much! They had no problem with us having a dog, and even came out to meet him and offered us pet towels for him to use on his stay at the lodge! They even personally walked us to our room to not only show us where it was located, but also to make sure it was okay for us! And was it ever!!!

The room was amazing!!! It had a small apartment style kitchen (a small stove with an oven!!!, a microwave, small kitchen sink, and a large bar fridge, not to mention all the dishes and cooking supplies that you would need), a nice wood kitchen table and chairs, a very comfortable love seat, a couple of nice nightstands and a pantry cupboard, a dreamy Queen bed, and an amazing bathroom! Immediately you noticed how clean the room was, it was immaculate, and it didn’t smell like deodorizer at all! The windows, walls, bedding, curtains and towels where all stain free, had no old burn marks or tears in them and immaculately clean! There were even no nicks in the paint on the wall! The room had actual hardwood floors in the entrance way/kitchen, and heated tiles in the bathroom! The room was also extremely quiet and we didn’t even notice our neighbours at all! The room also had a wonderful TV, and an ac unit that actually worked!!! There was a very “real-home” feel to our room!

We not only had a gorgeous view of the bird sanctuary and lake just outside our door (which our dog loved exploring!) but we even had a beautifully maintained flower planter on the window! The attention to detail in the room, and the rest of the lodge is just phenomenal! There was even a basket for recycling material in our room!

The owners are amazing, and even the other staff that they have are just phenomenal! We met two girls who were cleaning the rooms, and they were extremely friendly and made our puppy and daughter feel right at home!

Our room was sooo nice and comfortable that we ended up staying another night! Since we spent another night at the lodge, we were able to check out their fabulous mini-golf course, and were able to have our little girl play her first round of mini-golf ever – and she absolutely LOVED it! The course was fabulous! Some of the holes where a challenge, but all of them were amazingly fun and well planned out! Some of the holes where just amazing in how elaborate they were…. There was even a train that was up on a bridge that you had to walk under – you actually had to use a crank and hoist the ball up to the train to get it to the other side of the hole.

We loved our stay at the lodge, and will definitely be staying there again if they have room!

Room Tip: Better than any other hotel!

WOW! We do our fair share of travelling and I have to say - there are MANY people who work at other hotels that NEED to stay here and learn a thing or two about customer service. Stay here and you'll be reminded of what true, genuine service is all about! Enough said on this one!! :) Thanks for the homemade apple juice George, it rocked!! Can't wait to go back!! THANK YOU!!!

Room Tip: Just be yourself, they will take care of you!!
