“Elizabeth Lake Lodge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

My wife and I stayed here in late September, and were pleased with this establishment. It is located next to a wildlife sanctuary on Elizabeth Lake, a 250 acre reserve at the south end of Cranbrook, BC. The room looked newly renovated, with heated tile in the bathroom, new TV and view over the lake. All the places to stay in Cranbrook are near the railway, but we were not bothered by any noises at all. And having a room that faces the lake means that no highway noises either. The owner's recommendation for dinner (Hot Shots) was excellent! A runner would appreciate this location as well, as there is a good allowance for running/biking on the newly paved Highway #3 west-bound from the Elizabeth Lake Lodge. Highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Get a room that is on the second level, as they look out to the east, over the lake and are then qui...

We pre-booked as a stopover enroute to Idaho and I'm glad we did as they were turning people away when we checked in. Room was spotless, nicely decorated and very comfortable. Beautiful setting, I wish we stayed longer! We hadn't planned on using the kitchenette but as the hotel is on the far west end we decided to pick up some groceries so we could prepare breakfast and avoid back tracking as we were heading west in the morning. The rate was very reasonable given the calibre of accommodation. Highly recommended!

I was a part of a group that stayed at Elizabeth Lake Lodge on September 11th. Arriving at ELL is always a pleasure, knowing that you'll be greeted personally by George & Rachel before being escorted to your room (with a choice of milk, dark or extra dark chocolate).
The rooms are nothing short of stunning. They have the most plush, quality linens, and comfortable quality beds with custom wood frames.
The rooms have a fridge to keep drinks and snacks cold, and a beautiful balcony to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

In an anonymous survey about the favorite part of our journey, one person wrote "Cranbrook, the hotel there, Elizabeth lake lodge, is amazing! very passionate proprietors".

Thank you for hosting us, the pride you take in your property is astounding and we love to visit. In all of my travels around the world, this has got to be one of my favorite hotels.

Stayed for two weeks on business. Great little hotel with mini golf, a small RV park and right on the lake. Rooms looked like they had been freshly renovated with excellent bathrooms(even had underfloor heating in mine). George and Rachel were gracious hosts who guided you to your room and showed you around. The main rail line is across the highway so expect some noise from the engines.

Room Tip: All room viewsairs is probably the bests face the lake but upst

My family of three was driving from Banff to Spokane and needed a place in between to bed down for the night, so we chose Cranbrook and the Elizabeth Lake Lodge. We're sure glad we did! This appears to be an old motor inn that someone purchased and renovated, and very nicely. The property is clean and modern and the rooms are nicely appointed.

When we arrived and checked in at the office, we were surprised that the owner didn't just hand us a key and send us on our way. She physically walked us to the room and let us in. We had a room reserved on the ground floor, but as soon as she opened the door she noticed the room had a residual smell from someone cooking in it (it smelled like spent cooking oil), so she offered us a different room. The only other room available was on the second floor, which we gladly took, and she even offered to have her husband help carry our bags up the stairs! Wow, what service! Something you would never expect from a small "motor inn" type establishment.

The room itself was extremely comfortable. There is a small kitchenette complete with a full sized fridge, an amenity I particularly enjoy in a hotel (I like to make my own block ice when I'm on road trips - it lasts an awful lot longer in the travel cooler than cube ice from the hotel's ice dispenser). The beds were probably the most comfortable I've ever had in a hotel room, and trust me I've stayed in a LOT of hotel rooms all over the world. All three of us slept very well that night.

A unique feature of this hotel is it has its own mini-golf course, which is actually quite challenging. The owners told us it was complementary, and we very much enjoyed being able to do this. Cranbrook isn't exactly a happening place, and we were there on a holiday when what little there already is to do in town was closed, so it was nice to have some "free entertainment." There is an RV park with full hookups on site as well.

The only slight negative is that right across the highway is a rail yard, and sometimes you can hear the cars banging up against each other late at night as they're assembling trains. However, that seems to be a problem all over town as all of the hotels are along the same "main drag." It might even be less of a problem at Elizabeth Lake Lodge since it is further away from the main switching yard than many of the other hotels.

I would definitely stay here again if I ever find myself in need of a room in Cranbrook! You can't go wrong with this place!

Wow! What a find. Owner insists on showing room, beaming with justifiable pride. The room was perhaps our first with absolutely no signs it had ever been used....no scuffs, nicks, nothing! Amazing beds with British imported mattresses. Every aspect shows pride in the property rarely seen. Maybe the best room we have ever stayed in, including the Plaza in NY!! (We paired this with the best Indian food we have ever had...ask the owner for directions)

Great little hidden gem:) rooms were extremely spotless and very comfortable...Management was personable and attentive to our every need. We booked the hotel Friday for a night on Saturday and when my husband asked if there was possibly a main floor room we could have due to a recent surgery, they readily changed the room for us...with a smile:) We would stay here again in a heartbeat:)
