We have been to the Kingfisher (the restaurant recently has been renamed The Breakwater) many times, particularly for their Sunday buffet brunch. We typically go there for a special occasion or to take friends for a treat. The restaurant is lovely with ocean views, and an outdoor terrace backed by gardens. The brunch is quite pricey, particularly for folks who don't eat much, but there is a great selection and the food is typically very good. Going for brunch is a leisurely event and a fun thing to do with friends, family, or visiting guests. There is almost always a hot seafood chowder, a number of cold salads, a variety of cold shellfish (clams, mussels, scallops) and cold fish dishes (salmon done in a variety of ways, and usually a smoked trout and herring). Grilled vegetables, quiche-type dishes, sesame seaweed, stuffed eggs, etc., are only a sample of the cold dishes. Cold cereals with lots of toppings as well as fresh fruit are also available. There are a number of hot dishes - typically both regular eggs benedict and smoked salmon eggs benedict, regular scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, mini French Toast, and an omellette station and a carvery, in addition to several other hot dishes - a couple of meat dishes, vegetables, and usually a pasta. Cold juices are self serve, but coffee/tea is brought and the coffee pot is left on the table; refilled when necessary. The dessert table is always a hit - with something for everyone. Cookies, squares, puddings, jello; chocolate items, cheesecakes, mousse tortes, creme caramel, bread pudding with hot sauce; and this time the latest 'thing' - home-made fruit flavoured marshmallows. It is difficult to come away from this brunch without having 'eaten too much'! The serving staff are usually quite attentive, and the experience is usually very good.
