Description: Ocean7 Restaurant and AQUA Bistro & Wine Bar located at Kingfisher Oceanside Resort & Spa is newly renovated and re-opens in early March 2017. The new AQUA Bistro & Wine Bar features creative casual shared plates paired with fine wines and signature cocktails, while Ocean 7 Restaurant will focus on West Coast seafood, grain fed meats and fresh organic produce from local sustainable growers and suppliers. The culinary experience will be unparalleled with unique creations from our Executive Chef Nyle Petherbridge, an accomplished Red Seal chef who created menus for some of most successful well known establishments in British Columbia. Your senses will be awakened enjoying tantalizing food for the palate while gazing out to the vast ocean views which was the main focus in the design process. Spectacular panoramic waterscape views welcome you as you enter the main entrance for the two restaurants. Design elements make use of French provincial flair and modern West Coast accents featuring beautiful wine displays, soft woods, stone and antique tile finishes. Centralized in the AQUA Bistro & Wine Bar is an inviting New York style bar with rich marble countertops sourced from Vancouver Island’s top quarries. On beautiful sunny days, two large garage doors will open up to the patio enticing you to sit outside and bask in the warm sun with breathtaking views of the ocean and the beloved lush Kingfisher gardens. The new oversized outdoor fire pit will be a romantic spot to cozy up to watch the spectacular wildlife and sunsets. The adjoining space, Ocean 7 Restaurant, maintains a fine dining atmosphere with view tables and cozy booths, stair stepped to allow amazing vistas for all. The Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa, not only a destination Spa Resort, but a destination for a top culinary tasting experience!

“Lovely Sunday Brunch”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

We have been to the Kingfisher (the restaurant recently has been renamed The Breakwater) many times, particularly for their Sunday buffet brunch. We typically go there for a special occasion or to take friends for a treat. The restaurant is lovely with ocean views, and an outdoor terrace backed by gardens. The brunch is quite pricey, particularly for folks who don't eat much, but there is a great selection and the food is typically very good. Going for brunch is a leisurely event and a fun thing to do with friends, family, or visiting guests. There is almost always a hot seafood chowder, a number of cold salads, a variety of cold shellfish (clams, mussels, scallops) and cold fish dishes (salmon done in a variety of ways, and usually a smoked trout and herring). Grilled vegetables, quiche-type dishes, sesame seaweed, stuffed eggs, etc., are only a sample of the cold dishes. Cold cereals with lots of toppings as well as fresh fruit are also available. There are a number of hot dishes - typically both regular eggs benedict and smoked salmon eggs benedict, regular scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, mini French Toast, and an omellette station and a carvery, in addition to several other hot dishes - a couple of meat dishes, vegetables, and usually a pasta. Cold juices are self serve, but coffee/tea is brought and the coffee pot is left on the table; refilled when necessary. The dessert table is always a hit - with something for everyone. Cookies, squares, puddings, jello; chocolate items, cheesecakes, mousse tortes, creme caramel, bread pudding with hot sauce; and this time the latest 'thing' - home-made fruit flavoured marshmallows. It is difficult to come away from this brunch without having 'eaten too much'! The serving staff are usually quite attentive, and the experience is usually very good.

“Great Location/Views”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

We have had occasion to visit the Kingfisher twice in the last two months. First with family for lunch and then with family for dinner. We have eaten here a number of times over the years. My wife also uses the spa on a regular basis. This restaurant has a great location and the view over the water is very good. Staff have always been very good and the atmosphere is good for family's and or couples. It just happens that between visits a new menu has arrived. My brother in law's first question was "Are the mussels still there?". Fortunately I can say yes to that but after looking at the new menu I am unsure as to whether or not it is better. My initial impression is no. If you are going as a visitor and looking for salmon or halibut as a treat you will be ok but for me when I can get them any time the menu is more limited.

“Superb!!!!!”
Reviewed 24 July 2012

7/24/2012 - just dropped into the Kingfisher for a meal, the ambiance and the view. Had probably the best halibut meal "ever" on the Island ( been here 25 years.) paired up with a quailsgate chenin blanc this meal was nothing short of Superb. Sue, our waitress was a hoot and coffee / desert was great as well.

Well done Kingfisher. Don & Dodie.

“View spectacular, presentation imaginative”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

Our adult party of four had a weekday lunch at the restaurant. The service was slow but the servers were personable when present. It took over 20 minutes to get our drink order and 40 minutes to get our meals. Good thing the view was so riveting and the ambience also lovely. The food itself was good - not great - but beautifully presented. It was reasonably expensive - our meal was over $140 with tip - our table also had two desserts, one bar drink, two glasses of wine and two beers. It's such a lovely place; if they could just step it up in the kitchen a bit, (some hot orders were cold, some cold orders were room temp, my fish a bit dry and overdone, etc) it would be the first place we would take company for special dinners, instead of 3rd or 4th.
