Locals takes a unique aproach in that it attempts to serve, as much as possible, food made from locally sourced ingredients. An obviously very skilled kitchen brigade turns them into yummie concoctions. Great service from knowledgeable serving staff. Very good wines also. A shame that this restaurant, on the night we ate there, was less than a quarter full.

“Best fine dining in the Comox Valley”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2010

From the outside it doesn't look like much... a bland exterior in a strip mall in downtown Courtenay. But Locals is easily the best fine dining in the Comox Valley, and the ideal destination to experience the Valley's unique foodstuffs.

As the name suggests, everything that can be locally produced is, down to the walls and floorboards. That does lead to some interesting dishes, like the bacon-wrapped bison tournedos (and a lot of other bison-based appetizers). Wine from the award-winning Beaufort vineyards is the ideal complement to a meal.

It's definitely not cheap, and has a more formal air than most of the other restaurants in the Comox area, such as the Atlas. But if you want to show off the bounty of the Comox Valley to visitors, or are looking for a serious, "big city" dining experience, Locals is on par with most anything you'll find in Victoria or Vancouver for quality.

“Hard to Decide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 September 2009

Wow what a restaurant. I had been hearing about it from friends but it was my first time in – and it lived up to everything they said and more. Only one problem – too many great things on the menu to choose from!

I now will have to invent reasons to go to Courtenay just so I can eat at Local’s.

“Best restaurant in the Comox Valley”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2009

If you are looking for great cuisine in the Comox Valley this is the place! Locals namesake comes from its food which is mostly from the Comox Valley. They support their local farmers and make excellent west coast meals. I highly recommend them. If you are looking for something a little less pricey but still with the west coast feel try Atlas Cafe.

“Delicious and Interesting use of Local Ingredients”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2009

My Husband and I visit Vancouver Island every year and we always like to try to eat locally grown foods. "Locals" has nice atmosphere and nicely prepared local fare. The experience at Locals excellent and I highy recommed it. Another couple eating overheard that we were visiting the valley and welcomed us to the Comox Valley.

My only complaint is that the restaurant is in a strip mall. It would have fit better in a remodeled farm house, slightly off the beaten path. Luckily, the atmosphere is so nice you don't remember the entry once you are inside.

I recommend the strawberry rhubard pie with lavender ice cream... YUMMY!
