“Clean and a great bargain in Campbell River”
Reviewed 16 December 2012

Very clean with a great view over the water.
This is an older facility but very clean and the road noise is acceptable for the location.
A consistently good value as I have stayed here several times , the last for 1 week on business in Campbell River.
The towels are thick and the kitchenette is basic with no microwave but a full stove and fridge. Dishes are basic but usable.
Best thing is the location and consistent cleanliness, oh yeah the price helps any lack in luxury.

Room Tip: Top floor best view

The view from every room is spectacular., plus, this homey, friendly motel is almost directly across the highway from the fabulous Campbell River Museum. Yes, the walls are cinderblock, but the beds are quite comfortable and the furniture is definitely not the creepy, standard-issue cookie-cutter stuff you see in chain motels. The drinking glasses are actual glass, not cheap plastic cups. The bath was just fine. And the view! Wow! We spent two enjoyable nights. The motel is very close to the highway, but you don't hear any highway noise unless you need to leave the bathroom window open. This affordable motel is a really great value.

Room Tip: I would go for the 2nd floor rooms. They all have private balconies. I think the first floor rooms...

Waterfront location with wonderful views over Discovery Passage but motel is situated right on Island Highway which has constant traffic and is noisy. It’s some way out of town but easy flat walking along the waterfront – 15/20 minutes to downtown and at least 40 minutes to main Discovery Harbour shopping centre, Riptide pub etc. We appreciated the early checkin after our return from Knight Inlet.

Our downstairs room was clean with separate bedroom, bathroom, small kitchenette, table and chairs, sitting area with full glass windows/door overlooking the water. Bedroom was very stuffy as had to keep small window closed because of traffic noise; was small and cramped with double & single bed, no wardrobe or drawers (small hanging alcove in hallway). Bathroom door warped so didn’t close properly; no shampoo or hairdryer supplied; nowhere to hang bath towels with only a tiny, flimsy rail that took a handtowel; old and smelly cupboard under basin – couldn’t use it. Kitchenette had really old cupboards and appliances; no microwave; but did have kettle, toaster, electric stove, fridge, plates, cutlery, saucepans. Sitting/living area was quite spacious and does have the wonderful vista over the water which is very relaxing. Free wireless internet available.

Enjoyed the views and the living space to spread out for a couple of days. Unfortunately, the constant traffic noise and the old and worn fit-out and appliances means we wouldn’t make a return stay. Many of the hotels/motels in Campbell River are right on the highway – we had the same problem with no sleep the night before our trip to Knight Inlet when we stayed at Heron’s Landing Hotel.

My wife and I stayed at the Above Tide motel for one night on our way back to Victoria. Our room was actually a suite of several rooms including a bedroom, a bathroom, a small kitchen, and a living room area with a balcony overlooking the Strait of Georgia. (Note - it appears from other reviews that not all rooms are configured in this way). The view from the living room/balcony was exceptional with the mountains of British Columbia in the distance as well as a light house. We watched various boats and even a cruise ship sail past. The accommodations were not luxurious but were spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the price was reasonable. We would definitely stay there again the next time we are in the area.

We booked the motel after a series of excellent reviews, and then it received some pretty bad ones. We found it to be a fairly standard motel, with large, clean rooms, all of which have a balcony and a fantastic view out to the sea. You can park outside your room. There is free WiFi, and coffee was provided. The bathroom is smallish with thin towels, and no shampoo. There appeared to be no air conditioning (we didn't need it). The manager was very friendly.
The motel is on the 19A, perfect for a stopover. It is a bit distant from the town for a longer stay, but the balconies and grounds means it would be a pleasant place to spend a few hours watching out for boats and wildlife. You can hear noise from the road.

Room Tip: There is a mixture of standard rooms and ones with a kitchenette.

We were looking for a basic place to stay for 1 night at a reasonable price. That's what we got and nothing more, except of course for the lovely view from the verandah. Motel is the old style concrete block construction. Room furnishings are well worn and past their best before date. The owner does keep the place freshley painted and the grounds tidy. All in all just an older driveup motel that happens to have a good view.

We recently rented 3 rooms on a motorcycle trip to the north part of Vancouver Island. Using Campbell River as home base, we stayed 2 nights at this motel. It is basic but clean. We could park our bikes in front of our rooms. Two of the rooms were on the upper floors and 1 room was on the lower level. All rooms had an excellent view of the water. The upper rooms were your basic 2 beds, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The lower room was a 1 bedroom suite with a large fridge and stove. Only soap was provided. Bring shampoo.

The location of the motel is within walking distance to downtown.

Room Tip: Upper floor probably gives the best view.
