Owner description: The Campbell River Maritime Heritage Centre is home to the historic BCP45 seine fishing boat. The boat was pictured on the Canadian five dollar bill from 1972 to 1986. She was brought to the centre in 2002 and was restored on site by a crew of volunteers. Today visitors can go aboard the BCP45 and explore the galley, bunks, engine room, the head(bathroom) and wheelhouse. In addition to the BCP45 the centre boasts a large collection of marine related artifacts ranging from vintage outboard motors, weapons, navy paraphernalia and navigational instruments to the Margaret M a sailboat built by Arthur Barnes a blind one armed man and so much more. There are also activities for kids, in addition to exploring the boat children can learn to tie nautical knots at the rope board and how to spell their name in flag language. Guided tours are offered from 12-4 and are included with the price of admission. The Maritime Heritage centre is self-funded and support themselves through rentals of various rooms. The centre is also home to the Campbell River Genealogy society. After visiting the Maritime Heritage Centre, many guests also like to take advantage of the free parking and visit the nearby aquarium, the pier and downtown Campbell River.

Seeing our disappointment, this gentleman waved us in and took us on his own 30 min personal tour. The highlight of the place is a magnificently restored fishing boat that is the one captured on the $5 bill in Canada. The story behind it and the dedication the volunteer restoration crew put into it is moving.

For locals, this is the place where Weight Watchers meets and the CR Genealogy Society's Library resides. For newcomers or tourists, there is a lot of history in the museum and it's a great tour with great guides.

We were very impressed with the museum staff and the famous Salmon Boat! The museum was clean and huge; the ship was old but well kept. A tour guide took us into the vessel and showed us all about a fishing boat, what and where all personnel lived and worked. It made you respect these fishermen who are working such long hard hours out there on the ocean - fishing. And to know that this vessel is forever imprinted on the Queen's currency at one time is priceless!

Don’t miss the video showing the volunteer efforts during the boat restoration. Quite amazing! A nice story of local history.

As others have noted, this is a small museum, centred around BCP 45. It is bright and airy and the displays are all very well maintained. There are a few hands on things for children (rope tying, magnetic signal operations) and many beautiful model ships for the enthusiasts. We found it to be an enjoyable rainy day activity.
