“Customer Service = Rude (Monica)”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

What others wrote is true...The facilities are very clean; The staff come to rake debris from sites regularly; The park affords nice views; and Wifi worked well.
HOWEVER there is more to tell:
The campsites are close together with dirt, rock and dead grass. There are no plants or landscaping in the campground and few trees, so not a pretty place to camp, particularly for the price (this is why we rate the location "poor" - it is not nice IN the campground). The guests are mostly locals from Campbell River. The campground is not protected for the strong ocean wind. The west side of the campground is flanked with a mobile home park.
And... Monica is RUDE, she doesn't know how to have a pleasant conversation and blames other guests who have complained about her poor behavior. When you see her on the property she greets you with a complaint about other campers. When she answers the phone she is unfriendly and truly seems put out. She doesn't take accountability for her angry demeanor, making this an unpleasant place to stay. We should have known this from the first terse telephone conversation when making our reservation... things go downhill from there.
If you are traveling from off-island, seeking a beautiful place to stay with friendly staff, and enjoy meeting other well-traveled campers, keep looking. We will never stay here again.
We would recommend instead staying at Jinglepot (http://www.jinglepotrv.ca/) or Living Forest (http://www.livingforest.com/) campgrounds in Nanaimo, or Elk Falls Provincial Campground (http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/elk_falls/) in Campbell River.

I'm not sure what the circumstances were that you would have such a poor experience with me. I deal with hundreds of people daily and thousands throughout the year and I'm pleased to say that I have more fans than unhappy customers although I'm definitely not perfect. At times when it is very busy someone might get a shorter answer than we'd like when meeting old and new customers is actually the most fun about this job. Being the toughie at times is not. In regards to tight sites and dead grass and no landscaping I really feel that you are painting an unfair picture. I wish that I could put pictures with my reply. Our gardeners do a fabulous job throughout the park and we all work hard at keeping as much as we can green. . The sites on the waterfront referred to as the lighthouse area is a little bit more barren as there aren't many trees out there. We are very careful about the size of RV's and try to make sure that each site has ample space for their unit and passenger vehicle. We consciously do not crowd the sites. We have had an incredibly dry 6 weeks with maybe 4 days of rain. With a high pressure system often we have westerly winds which help it cool off at night. Within the last few years circumstances such as the rise in ferry costs, the Canadian/US exchange, gas prices and the economy have seen travelers stay closer to home and many of our guests are indeed from the island.

My husband and I have been going to Salmon Point for years. On our second trip there this year it seems the amount of rules has skyrocketed. If the dogs can't be off leash anywhere then make a dog run somewhere. A dog needs to run. Kids not allowed to visit other campsites after 10pm? Why would families get together at a park that enforces that rule. Not to mention the Manager on duty was nasty. Not friendly at all. I was not given a list of rules when checking in, just handed my reciept. They make it very difficult to relax when you got someone looking over your shoulder at all times. We will be going somewhere else next time.

It is unfortunate that you found that there were too many rules for your family to enjoy your stay. This weekend we had to tell one family that there children needed to be supervised in the swimming pool, that babies are not allowed in the hot-tub, that dogs needed to be on a leash, that children couldn't be down on the docks without life jackets, that quiet time is at 10 pm and children need to be back at their sites. These rules are for the safety and the overall enjoyment of all of our guests and the guests that come back to Salmon Point Resort every year as well as our new clients, enjoy the park with their families and understand the need for guidelines.

We have stayed here about 4 times in the last two years and have enjoyed each stay. We have stayed in slow times at the resort when you have most of what the park offers to yourself. The bathrooms and showers are kept spotless. The hot tub and pool are well maintained and clean also. We have also stayed over long weekends when the park is full to the hilt with families with kids and large groups getting together. The bathrooms get really used during these times as does the pool and hot tub. The staff still do a very good job of keeping ahead of all those who are there but sometimes some things run out and sometimes you just can't keep it spotless but everyone is having a good time and enjoying the park and scenery which is fantastic. As busy as the park gets we have noticed that everyone is well behaved and the park goes quiet sometime between 10:00 and 11:00 PM.

This is a very well run park and we have found the staff to be helpful and friendly. The park is close enough to Campbell River that if you have forgotten anything you can quickly find it there. We always pick a shady grassy site in about the middle of the park. There is a wonderful Pub to Pub walk along the ocean front. The staff will point you in the right direction and the path is so clear you can't get lost. My wife and I would highly recommend this RV Park. It is a wonderful place to kick back and enjoy a few seaside days.

We just got home yesterday from camping at salmon point .We had a wonderful weekend the weather turned out better than expected.
The sites are very clean . We had a site on the ocean there is a rock buffer between the sites and the beach as the weather in the winter gets wild.
The grounds are kept up.
We noticed that the fires had to out by 10 and it stated on the paper you were given on check in stated any noise above a whisper was too loud. I found this a little odd as we had been there at thanks giving and did not notice the change then.
There a pub restaurant on site, and a beautiful walking trail close by. Also seals, eagles and wildlife to see.
In closing if you want a fire at night you have to stay in the lighthouse section and on the water side.

This RV resort is very clean and the price was very good. The location is gorgeous with a marina and very nice high end resteraunt on site. It is about 15 minutes to town and attractions. Pool, rec hall and hottub on site are nice. Friendly staff and very well maintained. The only drawback is that all the sites have the hookups on the back of the lot and most RV's have them in the middle which means the hoses and cables are not long enough for big rigs. In six months on the road we have not had this problem till now. Definatly a nice place to stay and good value for your money.

We found the site manager very rude and unfriendly. We were talking past 10pm, not noisily, and were told if she heard our voices again and had to return she wasn't going to be happy. I'm not sure if she's ever happy. Not a nice woman. We chose to take our conversation to the beach and were again reprimanded and warned about her happiness level. Apparently 10pm is too late for quiet conversation but 7am is just fine for screaming children and parents. It's a beautiful place but the sites are too crammed together, you can't have a camp fire and the manager is among the most unprofessional people I've encountered in my fifty years.

It's unfortunate that your group felt that you were treated unfairly during your visit. When there is a sizable group sitting together chatting it can easily be loud enough to disturb neighbours. I simply reminded your group that quiet time was at 10. Same thing, at the beach. I didn't know that it was the same group or I would've realized that your group was making an effort to not disturb anyone. I'm sorry you felt I was rude. It was a long day and didn't need it to be any longer.
In regards to your sewer adapter that you purchased, you obviously had the choice not to hookup to the sewer. When sewer hoses are put down the sewer and someone upline empties, the sewer hose blocks the pipe and backs everyone up and makes a mess often affecting many customers. Kind of an important rule.

Very happy with our stay. Yes, we had to buy a sewer connection but whatever. Their resort, their rules. So friendly and helpful...after buying ice (riding a bike with two bags is a challenge) a staff member on a golf cart offered and took my bags to my site.

Marina appears tight but there is no wake or waves so it's a breeze getting boats in. Restaurant and pub is a nice touch and it is so quiet at night. Park is okay, pool is good and only adults in hot tub was good (much to my daughters dismay). Only regret is we weren't there longer than a week!
