“Nice little museum in a nice park”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

The carrousel museum is cute. The gardens are very nice. There is a center for arts and a small art museum as well.

“A Great Attraction for the Kids”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

This is a great educational experience for the children. This museum has many hands on activities to keep the kids interested such as making butter and trying it, sitting in an actual vintage classroom, and we will not forget the carousel. This has got to be the fastest and longest running carousel that we have ever experienced and my kids had a blast! The staff are wonderful here and very committed to their work and engaging with customers. I would recommend this to anyone!

“Excellent free family educational fun”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

It's free and awesome way to spend a few hours here. Great for kids too. It takes you back in time and the staff is awesome! If you want to spend some money, have lunch or some ice cream the cafeteria. Oh, the working carousel is truly a museum piece featuring restored wooden horses and old world charm kids of all ages will enjoy ($3 per ride). Plenty of free parking. Dear Lake is across the road and so is the Hart House restaurant - you should plant to spend at least 1/2 day in the area.

“IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME!!”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Set amidst woodlands, lawns and gardens, Deer Lake Park is an oasis of arts and culture in the heart of the city. Many attractions. The farmhouse is great to see ( I knew the family that lived in this house when I was a child). Travel back in time at the Burnaby Village Museum, a recreated community from the 1900's complete with a C.W. Parker Carousel fully restored (from 1912). Talk with costumed store keepers and townsfolk at the homes, school and shops. Don't miss seeing the small church - it is beautiful. This B.C Electric Railway tram stop village is a must see. Don't forget to have an ice-cream sundae or cone at the traditional ice-cream parlor.

“Can't beat FREE”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

I know what you're thinking--if it's free it can't be very good. WRONG. This is an excellent museum giving a great look at life 100 years ago with lots of hands on exhibits as well as static ones. And good food at the Ice Cream Parlour. It's operated by the City of Burnaby and a couple of years ago they decided to follow the European model of making major public attractions free to the visiting public. The Museum is better than before, bustling with visitors, and you don't pay a dime (except for gifts or food, of course). Well worth the trip to the suburbs. The vintage carousel, fully restored and fully functional is the key attraction

Thanks for the review and the endorsement. Much appreciated.

Just to clarify to readers, in addition to gifts and food, we also charge a nominal $2.50 for carousel rides (2014 rate).

Would you be willing to share what we should improve or change to earn your "excellent" rating?
