I love places in cities where I can get into greenery after a day in an office. Central Park Burnaby is one of them. Walk into the woods and escape the bustle of traffic on wide clean paths.
When you walk around the lakes - it's a very pretty walk with lots of birds and ducks. Some people bring bird seed to feed the animals - Squirrels. Walk is very level so anyone with a disability can enjoy.
I enjoy walking my dog through the numerous extensive trails, my dog & I love it. This big park has lots of beautiful tall trees so cooler in the summer. Haven't used these but there are many picnic tables, tennis courts, an outdoor fitness equipment circuit, golf course, ponds where miniature ships are raced, Tai Chi groups practice here.
We recently had some time to kill on a Sunday afternoon and decided to visit Central Park, having not been there for many years. It's a great place for walks, picnics and sports activities for all ages. They even had horseshoes, although that isn't of interest to me--just shows the variety of what's available. Can't rival Stanley Park, but still worth checking it out.
Several small lakes, nice to walk around. Parking lots were clean and nicely paved. There are lots of picnic places, I assume BBQ is not allowed. There are quite a few groups of people doing exercises together, there were dancing groups as well. Then I saw small groups of people walking around the lakes. There are walking trails as well, lots of tress, lots of fresh air. The beauty of this park is that it is almost next to Metrotown, huge shopping mall. Then tennis courts are just close by, maybe 3 minutes from the east side of the park,
I recommend going this park for a day, a get together for exercises.
Got on the trails a little late this year, as the Sun Run is only four weeks away! Surprised to see snow here and there, but then it's been a cold winter - and indeed still winter as I write this. However, other than a some leftover snow in the shady spots, most everything open for business. While the pitch-n-putt looked closed, lots of action at the duck pond near the tai chi/horseshoe pitch area, people picnicking and using the playground next to the lower pond where the remote controlled boats often appear. And, most important of all, the trails are even better marked than they were last year. Kudos to Burnaby Park staff - love your Central Park!
