Recently spent a weekend there going to the Atlas Coal mine, the Hoodoos, taking in the breathtaking view of Horse Thief Canyon, ferrying across the river and sightseeing all the Dino's downtown. We then had an absolutely fabulous dinner at a Greek restaurant.

“Takes your breathe away”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

Within a short walk from the parking lot to the edge of the canyon, the view is spectacular. You can close your eyes and easily image the horses running through the canyon, many years ago. You can also understand the name, the horse rustlers used to run stolen horses through the canyon undetected from the US, to sell them in Alberta.

“awesome views of the badlands”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

easy to drive, you can walk if you have the time but still can see lots by viewing. It is amazing to see what the Red Deer river carved out so many years ago. A must see if you come to Alberta.

“Beatiful panoramic views”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

Impressive views - different perspectives every few feet from the lookout point. Particularly nice in late afternoon as the sun is getting lower in the sky and the light reflects off the river.

“Get out and hike this”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

here you can park, put on the hiking boots and hike down into the canyon. little steep going down so wear boots with good traction - but not hard to manuever. excellent views. we hit it in the morning when it was still cool.
