“Excellence in dining!”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

This small restaurant situated on road 143 in Hatley is owned and run by Eric Garand, a great chef who will transform any plate as a work of art, using local venison and vegetables, cheese and fruits, and condiments and even flowers. Eric knows how to make a four or six dinner course a memorable experience. His wife Jinny Dufour, a sommelier, will assist in advising on your choice of the best wine to accompany your meal, and in insuring the best service at the table.
My wife and I go to Plaisir Gourmand when a special occasion commands an exceptional dining experience. And every time, we have been more than satisfied.

“Dining at the table in the kitchen with Chef & Staff working nearby”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

Small country restaurant run out of 1860 farmhouse in the middle of the Lac Massawippi farm area between North Hatley and Ayers Cliff run by husband (chef) & wife (sommelier, pastry) team. Unique experience having dinner at the table in the kitchen while chef and staff works nearby and zips by you to service the tables in the dinning area. The degustation menu with accompanying wine specializing in "terroir" products was an inspired combination. At the end of evening the kids dropped by the kitchen and the father/chef took the time to go up and take them to bed. Well worth the detour.

“Wonderful surprise”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

Last summer we went to a Michelin 3 star restaurant for our 25th wedding anniversary. The service was great and the food was interesting, but that meal was nothing compared to the food at Plaisir Gourmand. We each had the 6-course tasting menu, although we had different main course dishes. Each course had a beautiful and often innovative presentation (such as the smoked salmon tartar that was served in a box full of smoke). The combinations of ingredients were unusual, but turned out to complement each other wonderfully. We were there on a Thursday night in off-season, so we were the only patrons in the restaurant. Our service was excellent, but I can't comment on what it would be on a busy night. If there any limitation, it would be that the wine list is rather limited. We had the wine pairing, which were fine with the tasting menu, but when we wanted another glass of wine to go with an extra cheese course, there was not much to chose from.

The prices are not cheap, but considering the quality of the foods, definitely well worth the price. This is a place worth driving 100 miles to get to.

“Outstanding! Outstanding! Outstanding!”
Reviewed 2 October 2013 via mobile

A small restaurant in a converted home that has been in operation for 9 years run by a man and wife team in a small town. This is an excellent farm to table French gourmet restaurant with some of the most well prepared fresh food combinations we have tasted that were also very well presented. The restaurant was not busy as it is off season so the service was excellent! The cheese course with local cheeses had a diverse and large selection of very tasty cheeses. Well presented with fresh plum and bread and crackers. The desserts are super while understated. Very, very, good. Do not miss this food experience. Very French. Little English spoken.
