Had lunch again and was very impressed with the carvery. Choice of beef, pork or turkey and lots of veg - all cooked well and tasty. All for under £7. Well done.

If you want a decent pint and you have your dog with you, this is the place for you. If you are in search of a gastro pub, or even well cooked pub grub, probably best to give it a miss. We visited on a Saturday night and the bar was full and bustling, though the restaurant was empty. The beer was well kept and staff were reasonably friendly. If I was scoring on food alone I would have said poor, but the good beer, a dog friendly policy and a bustling atmosphere were all good, hence the overall average score.

We visited on a Saturday as a prebooked party of 6 with 2 young children. We ordered our food as soon as pub opened & waited 50 minutes before it arrived. We were not advised of any delay on ordering & when the food arrived no apology was offered. We could not understand why food took so long to be served as only one other table of 4 in resturant. My meal was not very hot smoked haddock with mashed new potatoes & vegetables which came with a hard poached egg on top of fish. Everyone else said meals were okay but we felt price of meals were a bit high for quality of food.

This is not the first time I have visited the Black Horse, but for the friend I went with this week, it was the first time and he was very impressed with the carvery. As always it was of a very high standard. Although not really needed, we just had to have a dessert, the cherry cheesecake, which was delicious. The whole atmosphere at the Black Horse is very welcoming and relaxing. We shall certainly be going back again.
