The room was nice and spacious. Tho the beds were really uncomfortable... the hotel is nice but diffcicult to get around . Also the jacuzzi tub was broken in our room . Being pregnant made this very disappointed. Would not go back .
Staff was very friendly tho .

We overall had a very nice stay. Some sections of the hotel have been refreshed and our room was nice although a bit small. We were in the Seigneurie section (basic room) and we also had a beautiful view on the lake.

PROS:
- Beautiful hotel, with very nice terrace, view and lots of little thoughts (fireplace in the lobby, blankets to keep you warm if you go on the terrace, basket of apples in the lobby, ...).
- Beautiful site for special events in the summer!
- Pool area is great. Freshly painted and very clean when we went. Jacuzzi was amazing as well
- Room was refreshed in our case so nice queen size bed
- Staff was polite and nice
- Restaurant and bar seemed very nice (although we did not use those services)

CONS:
- It is an older hotel so your expectations have to be as such! You can feel the age of the place in the corridors, the elevators, ... I like rustic and it was not a big deal for me but could be for others.
- Soundproofing is not great! We were lucky to have quiet neighbors and we only heard them a bit but we could hear them very close! So depends on your luck and this may vary from room to room. I can easily understand that in case of a wedding or other social event where people are a little hyper, this could disturb during the night but luckily their reservation service is great and can inform you of that.

My wife and I decided we needed a short break to get out of the city for a weekend, so Le Chantecler it was. The end result was a very mixed bag - a bunch of little things that really added up.

We took the deal that had the buffet breakfast included and we had a room in the original 1938 portion of the building.

We checked in only to discover we were checked into a room that was already occupied. That problem remedied, we got to our proper room to find a dirty towel left on the floor behind the bathroom door; said door didn't close properly, either. The sink faucet sputtered rather than deliver a nice stream of water. The toilet had to be flushed twice and the anti-skid surface in the bath tub had worn right off long ago. However, shower water pressure was phenomenal.

Rooms are equipped with a Keurig coffee machine but there's no mini fridge - a big downside, IMO. And the HDTV will deliver you a handful of the dwindling number of channels left on analogue cable; not in HD, of course. The beds were clean and comfy.

The WiFi covers every square inch of the property and very reliably so.

The lobby has a gorgeous fireplace where a fire can be sat around and enjoyed each evening.

As for indoor physical fitness you have a pool (with lifeguard) and hot tub, a squash court, weight room, treadmills and ellipticals.

The main restaurant is where the buffet breakfast is served and it offers an incredible view of Lac Rond and adjoining Ste. Adele. We only ate breakfast here and it included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, homefries, pancakes, fresh fruits, cheeses, breads and pastries, juice, tea and coffee. Decent quality but nothing more.

Outdoors, the signs and awnings are faded and/or broken and the parking lots could (and should) be paved. On the very plus side, parking is free.

The hotel, in general, really needs some updating and new life breathed into it. Walking around, you get an aura of former glory; that this was *the* place in the Laurentians where high society from near and far would convene.

All these little things add up to reveal a hotel that is poorly managed, resting for far too long on its now almost dried up laurels. Le Chantecler was purchased by the Gouverneur chain in the late 1990s and it seems they've given up.

It's so upsetting to see a historic, renowned property fall into such a state.

After reading all the reviews, I had hoped they were wrong but after attending a wedding yesterday, I have to agree with many of them. We knew that our room was in the old section and certainly not updated but the first thing I found upon entering the room was a man's sock laying in one corner behind a chair. Makes one wonder how who vacuums. One of the white towels in the bathroom had a long black hair on it. The rooms are in need of updating. Our room was one that had a adjoining door to the room next door and we could hear their whole conversation. We slept with the TV on to avoid hearing them or them hearing us... Would not return. The food at the venue was just okay... Not bad but not good either. The one thing that was good was the beds,, very comfortable.

It's a rustic hotel from the 1930's. It was clean, friendly staff, and decent buffet breakfast the next morning. In need of a renovation however. Room was very clean but again, old. Bed was comfy and sheets were very white. Setting is beautiful and the view from the breakfast banquet room is gorgeous. I'd stay again. Price was decent.
