Went here for my one year anniversary with my husband. I was really nervous about going because of all the reviews. I bought a deal find so i couldn't get a refund so we went anyways. After reading all these reviews I came prepared with earplugs, my own pillow and sheets and low expectations.
These reviews HAVE to be biased. Of course it is not a 5 star hotel, but you would be a fool to presume it would be. Look at their website: it looks like a rustic, quaint and charming type Inn, which is what it is. Obviously a 5 star hotel would have a better website than theirs. Their pictures are completely accurate. It shows the rooms as being somewhat darker and rustic. The pool was fine, the outdoor jacuzzi was fine. The food was actually wonderful! And all the staff we dealt with her great.
Yes they do add lots of fees at the end, but they are not unusual. Tax, gst etc. everyone pays that everywhere, the only difference here is that you pay it at the end. 15% service fee, sure it might be a little steep, but this is definitely not the only place i have been to that does this and they clearly mention it on their site and even at the front desk when we checked it.
The only flaws i agree with are: the walls are a bit thin. It is not atrocious but it is similar to being in an old home. While we couldn't hear anyone in the room beside us, we could hear the couple on the floor above us walking around and we could faintly hear their voices. Obviously not ideal, but not the end of the world. Also, we got the massages. They were ok but I like really hard massages and these were more delicate some massages and full body massages. I would have preferred her just stay on my shoulders but she said it had to be a full body. So it was ok. All in all it was exactly what it said it would be. Maybe the price is a bit too steep, but I also don't have a lot of money so maybe I just think that.
Other than that, the food was super, the grounds were lovely, it was a very short drive from Mont Saint Sauveur which is where we were headed, the staff were lovely, and the orange juice was perfect! (Another review even complained about that). Our private jaccuzi was AWESOME! and had lots of hot water. You could comfortably fit 3 people in there (not that we did, but that's just how big it is). Our bed and pillows were SUPER comfy, and usually i am a stickler about that. Sheets were very clean.
I would advise you not to read all of these reviews. They must be biased, i just can't understand them. I read them all, including the one about bed bugs, and was so upset before going up. I also had reoccurring nightmares about bed bugs while I was there, but needless to say there were no bed bugs. Bed bugs is something that is brought from an outside person, so they COULD show up anywhere. However, all the other people there were older couples; not the type of people to bring in bed bugs.
I do not believe these reviews are unbiased. I wouldn't even be surprised if many of them came from competing inns.
