“nice oasis”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2012

Very nice to walk in the winter and see all the birds feeding. If you are lucky, they will have on display a crow they keep inside after it was injured. It is a sight to see that big bird trying to communicate with us.

“A Wonderful Trail System for strollers, hikers, and photographers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2012

This lovely trail system was the object of our morning's adventure. We spent two hours here hiking the longest of the trails, hking first the Sentier des Étangs, which connected with the Sentier du Pionnier. There are numerous side trails, as well as a winter-only snow-shoeing trail.

You can download a PDF file of the trail system here:
http://maraisauxcerises.com/files/SentiersMarais_Depliant2011.pdf

You can download the site's (French) information brochure here, which includes a map showing the site's location:
http://maraisauxcerises.com/files/Marais_Depliant2011.pdf

The trails are well-maintained, with wide boardwalk through the wetter marsh areas, and across the river. The main trails are accessible to wheelchairs. There are picnic facilities as well.

There is no entrance fee, though there is a charge for some of the interpretive special hikes. We did not visit the interpretation/visitor centre.

There are interpretive signs along the trails, but they are in French only. The web site for the trail system is also in French only.

I offer only one negative comment. The on-site washrooms are an odd eco-friendly composting pit toilet design, that does not work. The washrooms were foul and rank, and I'd advise visiting washrooms elsewhere before you undertake a walk on the trails.

Washrooms notwithstanding, this attraction is recommended.

“Superb nature park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2012

Yes, fellow Anglophones, a “marais” is a swamp, but you must not miss this one! It is a huge preserve that is crossed by handicapped-accessible, hard-packed trails and boardwalks. I did 2.6 miles and didn’t see it all. There is an entrance across from the Tourist Office on Rte. 112 on the west side of town, but the main entrance and parking lot are just down Rte. 112 and a right turn on the Chemin Roy. Both spots are directly on the bike path and are an easy ride from downtown Magog. There is also an interpretation center in a very beautiful building up the hill on the Chemin Roy that I didn’t have time to see.

Try for a breezy day, but do go. Dogs on leashes are allowed. The other users were the friendliest people I met in this friendly part of Quebec. I found it totally by accident biking by and am very glad I did. It is totally free!
