Owner description: The most scenic theatre in Canada, the Thousand Islands Playhouse has two theatres on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, halfway between Toronto and Montreal, Canada. Featuring the longest decks in the region, The Springer Theatre is an intimate air conditioned vintage "canoe club" - and seats 360 with proscenium style seating. The Firehall Theatre is a heritage building with flexible seating open to innovative staging.

“Nice Intimate Venue - excellent play”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

We attended a performance of Jake's Gift at the Firehall Theater. This is a small venue that is very flexible in that it is an open space, not a proscenium arch theater. There is on-street parking around the theater, the parking lot they suggest is actually a fair walk. The performance we attended was Festival Seating so there were no reserved seats available - come early to get a seat if there are several people in the party and you want to sit together. The venue is small so there are not really any bad seats in the place. For our production, the audience sat on chairs placed on a series of risers. The chairs are reasonably comfortable and there was no problem sitting in them for over an hour. There is a small bar in the lobby. Ticket pick-up was fast and efficient. The play was excellent - if you get a chance to see this one actor show it is well worth it.

“Excellent performance despite interuptions”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

Spur of the moment decision to see a play here at this delightful theatre on the river's edge. We saw Driving Miss Daisy and the actors were excellent despite noisy interruptions. During the performance squeaking noises were heard but the actors continued very professionally until the manager stopped the play. There was a baby racoon in the theatre - not something that one experiences in the UK!!

“Excellent performance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

We were fortunate to time our mini holiday to the Gananoque area when Julia Mackey was performing at the 1000 Island Playhouse Theatre. The theatre lends itself to a summery atmosphere with the veranda overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Inside, "Jakes' Gift" was the thrill of a lifetime. Hurry to watch Julia (the writer) with her one-woman performance playing Petite Isabella, Grand Isabella, an Ontario school teacher and the memorable Jake, a veteran returning to Juno Beach for the 60th anniversary of D-Day. This is a play EVERY Canadian should see. If you're too late for Gananoque, check the 'net to see where Julia will be performing in the future. BTW, take you handkerchief with you!!

“Pleasantly surprised: Great location, Great Actors, Great Play”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

We attended the musical romantic comedy "She Loves Me" on a Saturday afternoon at the Springner theatre. This venue is right at the edge of the waterfront and has two large balconies for customers to enjoy the view during intermission.

The actors were excellent and deserved their standing ovation at the end.
There are 2 venues at the Thousand Islands Playhouse and both feature a number of plays from May to September. Well worth checking their website (http://www.1000islandsplayhouse.com) to see what's playing and take a play while in beautiful Gananoque.
