“Wonderful option when in the Gananoque area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2013 via mobile

We spent 2 nights at the Holiday Inn Express - primarily based on the other reviews listed here. The hotel is certainly a lot nicer than the named brand ones in the area. The rooms are very clean, comfortable - and even though the hotel was full - quiet. Breakfast was a nice variety of hot and cold options - including an automatic pancake maker! There's miniature golf next door that also serves ice cream - and a Tim Hortons and McDonalds within walking distance. All in all, a great option when visiting that part of the 1000 Islands.

My husband and I made a return visit to this hotel because our previous visit (August/12) was so positive. Hotel is on main street but set back from the busy road. Booked this room on-line and were pleased with the rate. Staff were efficient and friendly. We found our room clean, the bed firm but very comfortable and the bathroom spotless. Continental breakfast was good with an attendant re-filling coffee pots, etc. Will definitely stay here again.

The hotel was very nice, clean and the staff are friendly. The location is not the best, it is not that close to the boat cruises or the main area of town. It is walkable but it isn't a short walk. Breakfast, which was included in the price, was very unappealing.

Stayed one night (Friday July 12) on the way to Lake Placid. Considering the room was about $250, I expected a half decent breakfast. What a disappointment. The only eggs were rubbery round shape blobs, the only meat I saw was sausage in similar shape that looked like greasy hamburgers, and what I assume were 'mufffins' were slightly larger than a thimble and sugary. Orange juice was nowhere to be found, nor hot water, as only one overworked woman seemed to be working the entire breakfast area, and could not keep up with restocking things and cleaning. On checkout, I mentioned my concerns, and was offered $30 off the room, but I will not return here. The location is just off the 401 in non descript area near casino, but nowhere near the water. I will book earlier next time and stay at Gananoque Inn, which is far superior to this place in almost every way.

Modern hotel in a quaint little town. Certainly priced high compared to other Holiday Inn Express's. Staff were friendly and there were some Casino coupons available at check-in. Even priority points requirements were extremely high, I avoid using this place if it were for loyalty points only.

Room Tip: Not within walking distance to local tourist attractions except casino

The air conditioner was rattling each time it started up and made a good nights sleep difficult. Rather than use the asthmatic air com. I,decided to open the window, the lock fellc off in my hand.
When we checked out in the morning I mention the above to the desk staff who treated it with indifference and made no apology for any of these things.
I feel as well the hotel is well overpriced for what they provide.

We booked this hotel as an in-between for many of the places that we wanted to visit while in the 1000 Islands on the Canadian side. It had free breakfast, a pool, gym and Wi-fi, all of which were all important to us. An added bonus was the sauna in the pool area and the outdoor deck in the back. We found the breakfast to be well stocked each morning with a very friendly attendant, but we never saw the token pancake machine and cinnamon rolls that Holiday Inn Express advertises. Even the hotel lobby has a sign noting the pancakes?!? Having stayed at this chain many times, these are just items that you come to look forward too. The initial room that we were placed in would not cool down and sounded as though there were coins rattling around in the AC unit. On the second morning, we went to the front desk to discuss this and got the impression that we just did not know how to use an AC unit. We did not appreciate this at all! We were offered an upgrade and room move for the remainder of our stay. Both rooms were very nice and offered comfortable beds. The second room clearly had a working AC unit that kept temperature as set without making noises or turning on/off constantly. This is definitely a convenient location for many attractions! We would choose this property again.

Room Tip: If you have trouble walking, you will want a room near the elevator as the halls are long.
