I've been coming into Orillia, by boat or by car, for over thirty years. I go into Orillia, many times JUST to go to French's.
What's not to like? The food is good(it IS a hamburger stand, afterall), it's a historical site(and bright yellow at that) and allows one to connect to the simple life, ties in well with the waterfront and even has tables used by Stephen Leacock, Orillia's famous humorist.
The student servers are pleasant and helpful, the shakes are thick and great and you'll never see a larger two scoop ice cream cone than here! I like the food and fries as well.
If French's should happen to disappear, through lack of foresight by town council, it'll only mean that I have one less reason to visit your town.
Allow the past to stand and continue serving the present. I'd miss my time sitting at the tables, while looking out over the lake.
I know where to find Starbucks and high rise condos; that's not why I come here. This is unique.
It's a destination!
Hopefully, you won't "know what
you've got 'til it's gone."
