Amazing random find on Google! Great tour by train. Definitely thee best mining tour as far as real... read more
The train takes visitors into the mine where we were greeted by a tour guide who worked in the mine for 25 years. His experience and information was very interesting and taught us a lot about what it was like to work in the mine through the years.
He gave us some working examples of the tools they used, such as a hammer drill which he used to drill in the wall (very loud) and a transport carriage. The train journey takes us through the mine and then goes back through the mine again for one more experience before stopping at the old power station where there was yet more demonstrations of the equipment and very interesting information sharing.
The tour was well worth the money and takes up about 2 hours. The guides were great, especially being that they worked in the mine all their life. It was our guides first day actually giving these demonstrations and he did an awesome job.
I'd recommend visiting the mine tour.
Excellent mix of rail/mine history and examples of comprehensive site reclamation and restoration. Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife along the train route.
The "Express" train runs the loop that extends from downtown up to the ski resort. The longer trip stops in the "mine" for informative demonstrations.
All in all, a wonderful tour!
Took the tour on June 6th was very informative. Not all the building on site are open until July (theatre school house old log cabin) still glad I went tho. You get on the train and go into the mine get out and they explain mining and run some of the equipment get back in the train go to the power house get out see some machines run. Wonderful.
A fun and interesting way to spend an afternoon -and enjoy a train ride at the same time. Great insights from one of the former miners, as well as some info from a local volunteer. We'll be back for sure!
I spent 5 years as Personnel and Industrial Relations Manager at a Tasmanian silver/lead/zinc underground mine similar to the Sullivan mine at Kimberley in Britsih Columbia. The enthusiasm and professionalism of the Kimberley "Underground Mining Railway" experience is quite outstanding. The underground tour is both educational and very realistic. Mr. Bill Roberts conducted the tour on each of our visits. He is entertaining and, as a long-serving employee who has written a book about the mine, he provides a very authentic dimension to the visit for adults and children alike. Whenever we're in Kimberley with visitors we do this trip when the tours are operating during the summer. It's not expensive and but worthwhile.
I take my son every year on this train. As locals, it's nice to know the history of our town and support this great little train. A very bumpy ride. We went in the morning and it was a little chilly, and they gave us some blankets to keep us warm. A very nice, comforting touch to our ride. Thank you ladies!
