“WONDERFULLY relaxing and beautiful place!”
Reviewed 3 August 2009

We just stayed at the Lighthouse Motel the past two nights(July1st and August 2nd)
What a lovely place!
We had found it through the internet and were delighted at this little gem.
The location is fabulous, you have a gorgeous view of the ocean right at your doorstep (or from the lovely patio that is situated right on the beach's edge.)
The garden with it's lovely flowers and garden swings, hammocks and even resident collie are almost bucolic.
The collie is friendly and sweet; and friendly to other dogs visiting...
The suite itself was clean, cute and VERY recently renovated; there was obviously a brand new stove, fridge and microwave, and it looked like new linens(all of which were so well chosen)
The proprietor was friendly and obliging; it felt like visiting friends.
The most important thing is that it was QUIET; even at night there wasn't a PEEP out of the other guests(and the place was full)
I heartedly recommend this place!

When my wife and I checked the web for a place to stay we found this cute motel. We booked it because we were able to bring our family dog. The room was clean and comfortable although the bathroom was very small.

No fault of the motel but the beach is rocky and no sand but it was nice to look at. The grass area was nice to walk in or play on. The BBQ was also nice to have. We also liked the kitchen in the room.

My beef was that the room was not cleaned for us after the first of a 2 nights stay.
the couch should be replaced and the bed was good.
The management we not firm on their smoking policy. As a man ( from 2 units down) was constantly smoking right in front of our room and even though the manager was often right there I had to asked him to move. I was disappointing that we had to buy our own paper towels for the kitchen as the role was empty.

We decided to move closer into Qualicum Beach to be near the sandy beaches .We stayed in a NEW Motel for about $13 more a night that had a private balcony and the owners were very obliging to us with the dog.

Even though I might recommend this hotel to a friend, I feel that the price was too high for what we got.
The garden is nice.

We contacted the manager through the e-mail I found on a web site. She was very nice replying right away and letting us know everything we needed to know about the place. The morning we arrived she showed us a couple of the rooms and waited patiently until we figured out the best one for us and our border collie. Hard decision because they were all so appealing to us. After we picked the one and put away our bags we went for a walk on the beautiful patio that for our surprise had not only chairs but hammocks and a barbecue just for us to use if we wanted. The view was just fabulous!! We could see more than 180 degrees of ocean right in front of us. Eagles and other birds were flying above us etc. Back in the room we noticed how every piece of furniture and washroom was so clean and everything so tidy welcoming us. It felt as if we were in our own beach cabin. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

We were told by friends that it was quite rustic but I would rather call it quite run down. The sofa was caved in and quite uncomfortable to sit in. There was mould around the bathtub and the bathroom was barely big enough for one person to move about in. The kitchen supplies were minimal, we had one seven inch frying pan with no egg flipper. The batteries in the TV remote were dead, there was no radio or telephone. At $256 for a two night stay this was by far our most expensive accomadation on a 10 day trip throughout western Washington and the BC interior. But this was by far the worst place we stayed. Even our one night stay in a Motel 6 for $59 by far ran circles around this place. The grounds were not kept up and I can see why they do not include any pictures of the buildings or the inside of any of the suits (shacks). I would not return to this establishment for $50 a night including all taxes. It is quite evident that the owners have put very little money back into this property. I would highly recommend that anyone thinking of booking this do their homework first !!!!

I booked two rooms at the Lighthouse Motel about four months ago and received a very friendly and warm email back from Wendy (the proprietor) welcoming us to the Lighthouse. We stayed for four days and loved every minute of it. We booked two rooms - one with a full kitchen - one without. My husband and I stayed in the Georgia #5 room. It was beautifully decorated, very clean and inviting. Although there was no kitchen, there was a small refrigerator, a coffee pot, tea kettle and tea pot. There was even coffee and tea available for our use.

My parents had an Oceanview suite with a complete kitchen. Again, the suite was nicely decorated, clean and a fully appointed kitchen. The beds in both units were comfortable and great to sleep on.

This is a great place to go and just relax. It is very quiet and peaceful just sitting and watching the water and the boats going past. Wendy and her husband were very friendly and helpful. We will absolutely go back here again in the future.

  • Liked — The view and the peace and quiet.

The owner of this place was very unprofessional. We booked the cottage approximately three months in advance with the manager for our group of seven at $90 per night. Just a few nights before we were to arrive, the owner called us to change it to $135 per night. We told her that we were very upset by this change and the short notice, but she would not honour the original agreement. When we arrived in the evening, she informed us that the cottage was for only five people and since our group was seven she would have to charge us an additional $24 per night. Therefore the total amount we ended up paying was $159 per night!! Also, she insisted that we pay in full up front, or we could pack our bags and leave. After futile negotiations with the owner, she left us with no other options and we felt that were bullied into it by her threats that we would not find any other accommodations. The cottage was barely adequate. When we made the original booking we were told it was better than it actually was. Two out of the three bedrooms were very small (one was actually a closet just big enough for a single bed and it had no door). No doubt this is why there are no pictures of the rooms on their web site. Needless to say, I would highly recommend looking at other places to stay as there are plenty of other hotels and cottages in the area.
