“Great Weekend”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2013

We spent the weekend in Wawa and appreciated being able to come "home" to the Best Northern. The rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. The food in the restaurant was AMAZING, though the service was a bit slow. But, when we realized that the owners, Mark and Teresa did everything - from run the desk to cook and serve - we were amazed at how quickly they got things done. We will stay there again if we ever return to Wawa.

We stayed at The Best Northern while on a motorcycle trip. Of all the hotels we stayed at, and restaurants we ate at while on our trip, this place was our favourite. Nice clean reasonably priced rooms and an excellent restaurant that is also reasonably priced. We had dinner and breakfast here, and the food was top notch.

We had dinner at the Best Norhern on our way to a fly-in fishing trip. The meal (Jagersnitzel with Spatzle for me and Rouladen for my partner) was the best restraunt meals we have had in a year. We know our Polish and German cooking as we were both born and raised in Milwaukee. The owner (wife) was our bartender and server; the meal was prompt and outstanding. The only complain we would have is that we would have liked to have some of the nice bread that we saw being served on sandwiches.

We were so impressed that we were going back to Wawa and cancelling our room and moving here. Unfourtunately they were sould out. We will stay her on our next trip.

As to the matter of Tim Hortons; they are a coffee shop, not a restaurant. Ever since the Americans bought out the franchise the food has gone down hill. For us Timmies was a must stop when we went to Canada; not any more.

This property had good reviews so we made it a stop on our Circle Tour. They are seriously understaffed. I realize that a family run business is one of their selling points but there was no one to check us in at the desk after a long day on the road. We had to wait in the VERY crowded restaurant until someone had time to help us. The room was nice, comfortable and clean - which is why they are getting an average instead of Poor. We went to the restaurant for dinner instead of heading back out iin the rain and the experience was miserable. A restaurant review will be filled out separately. Checking out we ran into the same staffing issues. No one at the desk - went to the restaurant (only two tables had people at them) and we were "waved" to just lay the key on the bar! No one even came up to us to tahink us, ask us how the stay was etc.

This was our second stay in this wonderful motel and we were there for seven days. We found the Best Northern from our visits to Lake Superior Provincial Park when wwe were camping and came back again this year to enjoy the excellent service, the friendly staff and the super clean rooms. There was just one hiccup but not the fault of Mark and Teresa who unfortunately cannot vet their guests! We came back to our room one evening and found an old car (I expect the owner thought it was a valuable antique) parked half in his spot and half in ours, prventing us from parking in our designated area. He also had positioned a plastic cone (where did he "borrow" that from) to prevent anyone from parking too close! Shortly after we arrived, he went out to start the car (I thought a bomb had gone off, it was so loud) and our room was filled with evil smelling exhaust as we had our front window open - not a good neighbour!! However, that was the only negative. We highly recommend this motel to travellers and we intend on going back next year for another week.

Everything was new: furniture, carpet, flatscreen, remodeled bath with new fixtures. Wifi in room. My only complaint was the bed was too firm for me. The shower was great. Interesting ceiling. Everything nice and clean. No air, but we didn't need it. Being in the woods, watch for mosquitos when unloading. We had a little hard time finding it. It is tucked in the woods, away on side road that angles off. Very homey mom and pop place, very friendly. We ate at their restaurant, very good and convenient.

We were on a circumnavigation of Lake Superior. The Best Northern Motel was our third and fourth night on the road. We found this establishment to be very homey. The resident owners have a wonderful personality. The linens were soft and plush. The room was exceptionally clean as was the bathroom. The bed was most comfortable. The on sight restaurant specialized in the Polish cuisine of the owners heritage and the menu was diverse for American and Canadian tastes. The food was very good and expertly presented. There was a game room with pool table and a dry sauna. It was is within 30 minutes of the beautiful provincial park.
