My husband and I spent 4 nights in mid September at this delightful lodge. We had been informed that there would be a detour due to earlier flooding. This was no problem whatsoever as the detour was well signed by the lodge, and we had already travelled a good distance so another 15 or 20 minutes was no problem. Mostly it was a gravel road, a few bumps, but no worse and far better than many gravel roads. No problem for any kind of vehicle.
Our room was spotless, the beds very comfortable. I always do a bedbug search before settling in, so I know it was clean and pest free! There was even some very good original art on the walls!
We chose to eat our meals at the lodge and are happy we did. No, not gourmet, but healthy, tasty home style cooking. There was always plenty, with vegetarian options. I believe they will cater to dietary needs if told ahead of time. We sat around a big table with other guests and sometimes staff and over the course of 4 days had interesting and engaging conversations. Just what dinner should be like!
The staff were friendly, knowledgable and present.
The views are wonderful, right out over the lake, waves pounding in as there was quite a wind at first. It was fun to scramble around on the rocks and we had several beautiful hikes in the area. The lodge specializes in kayaking, we do not. We do like to canoe however and we were shuttled, with a canoe and box lunch some distance up the Michipicotin River and spent a lovely day paddling down stream, lunching and exploring on a sand bar, watching bald eagles.
One evening some ladies from the area arrived and did some folk dancing, with some of the guests joining in. This was delightful and was over far too soon!
This lodge is a perfect place for rest, relaxation and activity if you wish it - the crashing waves the only noise. We would recommend staying at least several days as it and the area has so much to offer!

Room Tip: They all looked good to me. Three of the four rooms are entered from inside the lodge. One has an exterior entry with deck and chairs.

We stayed here for a small destination wedding. Although a bit of a trip on dirt roads from near Wawa, because a couple of bridges are presently out of commission, it's worth the drive.
Staff were all super helpful, friendly and courteous. The food was delicious and very generous in quantity. The dining room has lovely views and is glassed in on 2 sides.
Rooms were spacious and the beds very comfortable; squeaking doors were promptly oiled.
I'd recommend a sanding of the floor, as several in our party got splinters in their socks.
This lodge has the feel of a home away from home.
Wood was at the ready for evening bonfires; the night sky was awesome, as there is no light pollution. One can enjoy pleasant walks along the beaches, or take longer trails; staff were very accommodating with meal times and provided maps and advice for day hikes.
I'd highly recommend this lodge for a relaxing stay (or for a kayaking holiday, as there were lots of kayaks on the premises).

Room Tip: All four rooms were fine.

This was the last stop on our Circle Tour around Lake Superior, and we were so incredibly disappointed by this lodge. Several things went wrong: 1.) Because of some bridges out, the detour to get to this place was about 7 miles or 10 km of rough gravel roads... not exactly the "well maintained road" it was billed as and our car had a difficult time making it there; 2.) The suite we booked months prior was occupied by someone else upon our arrival and we found we were booked into a room that abutted the main lodge (very, very loud as people were dancing, carousing until very late); 3.) The lock between the main lodge and the bedroom did not lock... some people might not care about this, but we did as we like to feel secure in slumber; 4.) When turning down the sheets for the night to go to sleep after the stampede of elephants left the lodge area, we found stains. Yes, stains that appeared to us to be of sexual nature as they were in the middle of the fitted sheets on not one but BOTH beds (management later said they have a hard time because of high iron levels in their water, but we are certain of what we saw) and that's NOT acceptable at any lodging, especially one that charges more than $120 a night... unfortunately it was so late at night and raining, so we were wary about packing up and driving down the scary long road to get to another motel so we slept fully clothed on top of blankets; 5.) As if that were not enough to completely sour our impression of this lodge, the squealing paranormal bagpipers/fire alarm of the shower head did not lull us back into complacency in the morning. We quickly gathered our belongings and checked out before the office even opened. To the lodge's credit, they did reach out to see what they could do to make it right with us. We suggested that they use bleach and thoroughly wash bedding between guests; fix their basic maintenance issues; and refund us our stay (which they said they would.) I agree with the other reviewers on here that the place is in a beautiful location --- right on the rocks along the water with adirondack chairs on the deck to take in the peaceful evenings. Really breathtaking. So if you want to chance the road, the locks not working, a squealing showerhead, then take your own sheets as a backup. We really do hope they fix these issues because it's clear this has been, and very well could be, a great lodge. Our experience, however, was terrible. And we've not given but one other bad review on TripAdvisor or any other reviewing system, ever. We tell it like we see it.

Room Tip: The Patterson Suite was the room we were booked for --- it's not connected to the main lodge and had its own separate entrance... would recommend you take this one over the Voyager Suite they stuck us with that is connected to the main lodge area, and very loud. But either way, take your own sheets.

Thank you for your comments on what was obviously a disappointing visit for you. We are sincerely sorry that your time with us did not match up to your expectations, and indeed to our own. As a team we have discussed and worked to address your issues to ensure your and our customers’ satisfaction.

It is very unfortunate that you ended up in a room other than that which you had booked in advance, an error for which we are truly sorry. The fact that the lock was not functioning would have been frustrating as well. We have repaired the lock, and the noisy shower is on the list for our plumbing upgrades this fall.

Our guests are always welcome to join in on the occasional evening activities we offer in the front room. We try to inform customers in advance if there is an activity planned. Usually house concerts, slide shows, and folk dancing evenings wrap up before 9:30pm, and we endeavour to have the lodge vacated for guests only by 10:00pm.

It is always the case that bedding is thoroughly laundered between guests. We do face challenges with high iron content in the water, but it would be unusual for stains of a nature you suggest to remain. Our staff will thoroughly inspect bedding to ensure the appearance of uncleanliness is avoided in the future.

We work very hard to ensure our customers have a superior visit with us. Obviously in this case we were not successful. We hope you allow us to provide you with a much more positive experience in the future.

We stayed there 2 nights and had an awesome time. The fellow guest were great too. The main we reason we stayed there was because they are pet friendly. Everything about the place, food, rooms, lodge were perfect. Hopefully we will be back next year.

We recently stayed here, only for one night (unfortunately!). We arrived quite late as we drove 10 hours to get to the area and the staff sitting in the kitchen was so great to us. One staff member showed us to our room and invited us to enjoy the outdoor deck. The views from the outdoor deck are spectacular. Inside, the communal dining area is lovely, with huge windows overlooking the lake. Our room was very clean and pretty. We had to leave early the next morning so we had a quick breakfast but the food coming out from the kitchen looked amazing.
I would recommend staying here for at least a few days. Very, very relaxing and lots of adventure on the water to be enjoyed!
