The real Sooke Harbour House is outstanding, and my experience at the award-winning restaurant was second only to a meal I had years ago in the Loire Valley in France. Not to mention the wood-burning fireplace and awesome ocean views. No problem whatsoever with our waiter. If you're just coming for dinner, come early for a lovely walk to the end of Whiffen Spit. We did not stay at the hotel, but I hope to on a future occasion.

We stayed in June 2011 for 2 nights in the Whale Room. The room itself is pleasant, but not luxurious. The staff were courteous, polite and extremely helpful. The room had a king-sized bed, private outdoor soaker tub on the balcony, a sitting area with fireplace and a spacious claw-foot bathtub with steam shower for two. The view into Sooke Harbour was pleasant and calming. The clear highlight of the stay was the food, which was exceptional - using only locally sourced, fresh & seasonal ingredients.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel as we had friends in the area. We were very disappointed and thought the price certainly did not fit the experience. A very limited breakfast which is served very early. The rooms are dated and tacky. We stayed in a hummingbird room that had that motif on everything imaginable...seriously needed an update! Most disappointing though, was that we left our names, phone numbers, emails and a very long critique in our room. No one ever contacted us. The natural view is beautiful, but there are also many other great hotels that offer that in our gorgeous province.

My husband and I went back to Sooke Harbour House after staying there 25 years before. It was every bit as warm and hospitable as we remembered from years past. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was excellent. We spent a lot of time with binoculars the next morning watching the blue heron's hunt. The room was great and the staff were excellent. The only improvement I would make would be to add some breads to the breakfast basket. Not everyone loves croissants and sweet rolls. Other than that it was perfect.

Room Tip: The Blue Heron room has its own deck with multiple vistas.

My husband I stayed at the Sooke Harbour House in March of 2013. The room we stayed in (Emily Carr) was beautiful! We thoroughly enjoyed the wood burning fireplace and the mountain and ocean vistas...stunning!

The hotel staff were very courteous and polite. I can't say enough about our fabulous meal we had in the dining room - overlooking the Olympic Mountains...fresh seafood and wonderful, home grown herbs and veggies. Just gorgeous!

My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer..

Room Tip: The rooms on mountain and ocean sides are spectacular! Large rooms with stunning views!

We went here courtesy of our daughters for a anniversay dinner. The drive to Sooke is about an hour from Victoria, along forested roads, passing the city of Sooke, which has an interesting museum, located just before it. A pub along the way (17 Mile House ) Sooke Harbour House is getting old. Still has wonderful herb garden, freshly prepared foods that have a dedication to taste and delight the eye. But we found the rooms looking a bit tired. The view from our patio was very nice, acsess to a private beach, near to a good walk, and a sense of many memories. The outdoor deck is nice to sit on and enjoy a out door picnic. The salad that my husband had for his first course looked like wedding confetti. Full of every possible edible flower and herb. It was charming and delicious. They catch and serve some interesting foods here, like sea cucumber and other life that with the right chef hand is turned into a gourmet feast.
Presentation is key here, but as I heard it is up for sale, the right investors will be able to give it a face lift and return some hidden secrets into a new seabed.
The current owners have won many accoldaes and put their heart and sole into ownership. But like many homes, Inn's and dreams sometimes it's someone elses turn. A good Art gallery on site with local art you can buy, and very abundant in being a good place to unwind. Many hard working gardeners. Not for children under 21.

Room Tip: Ground floor room has acsess to private beach. Upstairs rooms have more view. Choose a room away fro...

Better bed at a Motel 6. For $200 plus a night...we could have stayed at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria for less, and a much better bed. Also breakfast before 8 AM. Place was locked up at 8 PM too. Much earlier than the 10 PM as advertised for public spaces.
