“Plesently Suprised”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

We went to this hotel because it was offered as a Groupon and it seemed to be an interesting looking hotel in a great location. We were very very happy with our stay. Our rooms were amazing nice big size gorgeous bathrooms and a luxurious high end hotel feel. The hotel is perfectly situated on the sea with stunning ocean views. There is quite a few things in the area to do with kids and the pool area is a nice size. We enjoyed our spa experience as well and the food in the restaurant that is located in the hotel is very nice as well with the same amazing views and a very nice menu that changes with the seasons. We will be back......

My Hubby and I live in Victoria and like to get away, on the Island, for a few days once in awhile. We know Sooke, and in the winter, Sooke does not have much happening, but a good book and glass of wine is what we were looking for. The 5th floor of the Resort was not open (because of the season) so we took a 4th floor room with a "premiere" water view. The room was adequate, the bed very comfy and the view was a quiet water view. The bathroom had no heat lamp and with the tile floors it was cold. Don't forget your slippers. We also did not have bathrobes with us and there were none in the room. I was told at check out, when I suggested they provide them that ...it was an error on the part of housekeeping that they were not there. Guess I should have asked. NOW...our biggest problem with the Resort...the restaurant!!! The food, at best, was fair (my husband said it was "crap") and expensive. My husband ordered spaghetti and meatballs and the dish came out cold, very cold. It never even made the microwave. He sent it back and they just warmed it up. He ate 1/3 of it. In a five night stay we ate in their dining room just TWICE ...it was enough. It was also freezing in the dining room. Everyone kept their coats on, even the kids who have no temperature nerves. They told us there was a problem with the heating...so...turn off the fans that exchange the freezing air. We ended up at a wonderful "locals pub" not far from the hotel called "Buffy's" ...great food and reasonably priced. If it was in Victoria we would be there often. Staff at the hotel was wonderful, room was good, though I think $155, plus taxes, is a lot for the area in the off season. STAY AWAY from their restaurant.

Room Tip: Book a room overlooking the water... ...avoid their restaurant!

Best Best Western we have stayed in, and we travel a far bit. Room was excellent. We had a dog room and they even provided a dog bed and dish. Nice touch. Food was great at the restaurant. All around great place to stay.

Stayed here last night, as the place looked really nice, and all the reviews seemed to be supportive and endorse this establishment. The beds were comfortable, but the heating unit ran about once an hour all night, and sounded like a semi right beside the bed. The sleep was far from restful or restorative. There are no drapes to cover the light coming in through the windows, as this establishment uses blinds. Light comes in along the sides of the blinds. They do have a Keurig Coffee Maker in the rooms, which is really nice, however, there were no coffee pods to use in the machine. We were heading out to dinner, but decided to stop at the front desk to advise him of this, but no one was to be found there. Upon returning from dinner out of the premises, we waited for a minute and still no one at the desk. My husband finally heard him in the office behind the front desk on the phone. We waited a short minute for him to appear and when he did, my husband asked him if we could get some pods for the machine in our room. He responded that he did not know why housekeeping had not replenished the supply, and in a condescending manner advised my husband that there was no need to be so upset as he would get us some. We turned to leave to go back to our room, and as we were getting on the elevator, he came rushing up to us with four pods which he shoved at us.
In the bathroom, there is a towel ring above the counter - I accidentally touched it with a towel and the thing fell right off the wall and into a dish that was holding toiletries. Thankfully, it did not crack the dish, and I gingerly put the towel ring back onto it's little insecure holder. I really did not expect the fixtures to come apart from the wall so readily, and I must admit it was a little unnerving. The view of the water was nice, but did not make up for the problems we encountered.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor have a balcony, but others do not.

We were in Sooke at a restaurant for a special birthday celebration and thought it would be a nice little get away to spend the night. Because it isn't that far from home, we had driven by many times but had never even driven up to take a look. So when we decided to stay, we were pleasantly surprised by what we found. I particularly loved the lobby! The decor is very inviting and almost had the feel of colonial India or other tropical local. The reception staff were very courteous and helpful.

The room was comfortable.

The property is very nice, with views of the water and a nice big pool and hot tub room that looks out on to the water and looks like opens up in summer.

The workout room was very impressive with lots of brand new looking machines and very clean and also looks out over the water so you can enjoy the view while on the treadmill.

We didn't get to enjoy the spa, but it seemed very popular. Neither did we get to try the restaurant because we were celebratating elsewhere and then the restaurant wasn't open for breakfast. There is a small cafe in the lobby but we were looking for a more substancial breakfast.

All in all we had a very pleasant experience and would go again.

My husband and I came for our second stay at the Best Western Premier Prestige in Sooke, Feb 7-9th. Our first stay—last August—wasn’t the best, but this time around it was a whole other story. It was amazing!

The hotel is about 2 minutes past “down town” Sooke and sits on a beautiful piece of ocean front property. The hotel itself it quite new and the finishings around the interior are top notch. The rooms are really lovely, too.

ROOMS: We had a big oceanfront room with a large patio. Even though it’s winter and chilly, it was so nice to have a patio…with a hot tea or coffee it was just right. The view from the patio (or from in the room) was incredible! Literally 180 degree views, you don’t even need a TV with this view.

AMENITIES: The pool was nice. They keep it open until 11pm and it was really quiet, so we had the hot tub to ourselves.
The spa was also great. It’s a small spa but the staff here were also very good and the services awesome and quite reasonably priced.

FOOD: The food was exceptional. Since our last stay, they have added a raw bar where they serve sushi from. If it’s not too busy at Ric’s you can order sushi at Ric’s…we did this twice. The sushi creations were different that traditional, but nothing short of amazingly delicious. Fresh fish and fresh ingredients were obviously used. My husband went for the filet mignon both nights and was not disappointed at all. The service at Ric’s was also really, really good. The restaurant was pretty busy both nights, and clearly a lot of locals come to eat here, which is a good sign.

SERVICE: The front desk staff were very helpful and polite. During our previous stay we had a few issues with the hotel staff being rude and dismissive, this time they were exceptional and accommodating. The hotel manager (Jacob) offered us a spa and restaurant voucher and we utilized both, he was very helpful during our booking and ensured we would enjoy ourselves.

We live in Victoria, so it was a short trip for a weekend away and it was so worth it. It’s far enough away to feel like you’re on vacation. There are a lot of outdoors activities near by as well. Lots of fishing (and tons of winter fishing biting!), and great hikes within 30 minutes. We’ll definitely come back to this property again for the views, food, location, and service.

Room Tip: pick ocean view and a balcony if you can--you won't be disappointed!
