Owner description: The Sooke Region Museum & Visitor Centre is a community museum that explores the human and natural heritage of the region from Sooke to Port Renfrew. The museum also operates the local visitor information centre for the region. We have both exhibits in the main museum building and around the grounds. In the Summer we are open 7 days a week. In the off season we are closed Mondays and most Stat holidays. We also usually are closed over Christmas and the first week of January. There is a touch screen system outside the main entrance for after hour accommodation inquiries and maps for pick-up after hours. The museum holds various special event during the year, has a gift shop with local arts & crafts, plus can do special meals for pre-booked tour groups.

Nice area to walk around & see some of the local history. It's to bad they don't cover some of the old machinery in order to preserve it better. My family enjoyed visiting.

Worth paying for the tour round the cottage next door provided by someone in costume - very professional.

I loved the great books, nice selection of local handmade gifts and many recommended service providers in the Sooke area.

The free museum describes life in the fishing and logging community of Sooke, a delightful getaway from Victoria along a scenic route. The museum doubles as a visitors' information office, where the staff gave us excellent suggestions on nature walks and restaurant options. There is a good gift shop.

Great free museum that also houses the tourist information office, the staff are friendly and have a wealth of local knowledge. Its worth taking time to walk around the museum as it gives you a good feel for the history of the area around Sooke.
