On our third night in Gatineau, we questioned why we'd bothered making a reservation. Every restaurant we looked in as we walked by had lots of tables. Chez Fatima was packed with locals. We definitely needed the reservation we'd made a week earlier.
We came for two reasons - the #1 ranking, and because I'd spent two weeks in Morocco in 2016 coming to love the delicious and spicy Moroccan dishes.
When the proprietor heard this, he warned me that while they cooked in the Moroccan style, they did not spice dishes as heavily. This was bad news (spicy is good and Moroccan spice mixes are uniquely divine), and good news (the hearty flavour of the chicken and lamb shank burst forth.
We made sure to top the meal off with fresh mint tea, poured from a great height.
A good evening spent with friends over delicious, home cooked food.
