“Ski trip at Fernie - decent value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2013

I stayed at a platinum 2 bedroom condo unit in the Juniper lodge. It was a very clean and well appointed unit. The layout is good: a living space divides the two bedrooms. Each bedroom had an ensuite bathroom. The staff were very informative. The hot tubs seemed well maintained. The BBQs are functional and communal and do the trick.

As indicated in a previous review, it is not a true ski in and ski out. But it is still good value for the money. The shuttle to the hill is decent and the drivers are pleasant and professional. The ski back to the unit is a bit of a hike. You may be better to walk back from the hill (5 minutes).

The only downside of the units have to do with the lack of sound proofing, especially from the hallway. The hall doors are made of wood, not steel, and dont keep the noise out. You could hear noisy people passing. The people above and beside were not too bad. You could hear footsteps.

Check in is 4pm and check out is 10am and there is no daily housekeeping (although available for an extra fee). Overall, decent value.

Room Tip: Try for a top floor to avoid soundproofing issues.

We stayed at this hotel a couple of weeks ago for a family ski trip. We had a two bedroom condo which we liked very much. It was very clean and all the furniture was in good condition. Appliances worked well for the most part, the dishwasher is extremely loud and the oven takes a lot longer than the one I have at home. There is no daily maid service at this lodge. We had laundry in our condo which came in handy.
The only complaint I have about this hotel is its location, it is definitely not ski in/ ski out. It was a long walk at the end of the day, especially if you are wearing ski boots and carrying your kids’ skis like we did. We stayed in Juniper Bldg. and even if you try to ski in at the end of the day, it's still a long walk. The shuttle van in the morning was busy, and if you have to wait for the next round it takes some time. After the first day of trying the shuttle and walking back, we ended up driving to the lift area. If you have small kids that is the best solution. For that reason, I would probably not stay at this lodge again.

Three of us friends met in Fernie for a ski weekend over BC family day weekend. We had a platinum room in Timberline Lodge. You can ski back to your condo pretty much but not ski out. But there is a small bus that comes by often every morning to take you to the base. Or some people just walk the 12mins to the hill. The room was great (3rd floor) and the hot tub was awesome. There were lots of people around but everyone was friendly and we slept well given 'quiet time' between 11pm - 9am. I would suggest you bring your ipod speakers given the tv connection (with your own wire) does play an apple but you can't see the song names - all in mp3 lingo. Very clean and comfy! I would definitely stay again.

We stayed at Timberline Platinum 1 bdrm condo (#524) in the Balsam Lodge. Booked through Skican. We stayed 7 nights and skied 6 days. Unit was very attractive and comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped. Great bed. Hot tub in the building was convenient. Facility was quiet even on the weekend. Front desk service was excellent. Timberline is not a ski out facility but they supplied a morning shuttle (8:45 to 10:45 am) to the hill which was excellent. You can ski in to the property at the end of the day. Mountain Pantry was convenient and there is a good shuttle into Fernie for a night out.

We stayed in a Timberline Silver 2 bedroom condo at Pine Lodge for 3 nights at the end of Christmas break. We booked the day before arriving and it was the only one left , so I wasn't sure what we'd end up with. However, though we prefer true ski-in/ski-out, we were very happy with this Timberline condo. It was attractive, well-equipped, beds were fine, it had (slow) Wifi, and the living space was comfortable. While there were beds for 6 in this particular unit (plus a pull out couch), the common area was smallish and we would have felt cramped with any more than the four of us. We took advantage of the morning shuttle to the base area, which operates until 10:45 a.m., and there's a trail to ski back to Timberline (the trail ended close to our unit in Pine Lodge). After lunch, we opted to drive to the base area and found parking easily (much of the Christmas crowd had cleared out by this point). There's a store just a couple of minutes walk away, which came in handy when my son discovered he'd forgotten his toothbrush and again after skiing when I needed my daily Globe & Mail fix! We didn't realize that there's a pool, which we may have made use of had we brough bathing suits.
A couple of calls made to the front desk yielded a friendly response although they didn't come by the unit within the time frame promised. The only problem we had was when my husband leaned back in his dining room chair and snapped the back off it. Luckily there was a table behind him and he didn't end up on his head. Upon examining the other chairs, we discovered that one had been bolted together in the same spot where his had snapped, another was cracked and ready to break, and a third had already been replaced with a different style of chair. We told the front desk that they needed to remove the other cracked one and they said they would look after it, but who knows if they did. They didn't charge us for the broken chair, which we appreciated as it was clearly a design problem. All in all, we would recommend Timberline, as long as you don't mind being a bit further away from the base area.

Hi Vagabond_dreams,

Thanks for staying with Fernie Lodging Company recently. We appreciate your taking the time to leave a review on your experience. I would like to apologise on behalf of the company and the suite owners for the incident with the chair. I would like to assure you that we have taken measures to remove the set of faulty chairs from the suite and replace with a better quality product. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we look forward to you staying with us in the future, and of course enjoying our outdoor heated swimming pool!

We normally go to Kimberly to ski as the accommodations are incredible ski in/ski out on the mountain - we wanted to try something new so this year we booked at fernie. The mountain was incredible, with great conditions, the accommodations were not so great. We booked late but were still able to get a two bedroom, pet friendly condo over Christmas. We were put in the basement of the spruce lodge, I don't know if we were in the basement because of our dog or if that was all that was available. The condo was roomy and for the most part clean but desperately needed a renovation, the beds are terribly uncomfortable. This lodge is approximately a 10 minute uphill walk to the ski hill -The hotel offers a shuttle to the mountain, but they neglected to inform us that the shuttle only runs till 10:45. We will not book at this location again.

Room Tip: When booking if available try and book a platinum package

Dear Rob B,

Thank you for staying with us this holiday season. We appreciate your candid feedback regarding your visit. I would like to take this opportunity to point out to you as well as other readers that we are in fact a Property Management Company, and not a Hotel. As such, we manage privately owned suites and condos in the Timberline Lodges, on behalf of their owners. Unfortunately not all of our property owners are dog lovers like me, and thus not every suite that we manage is considered dog-friendly! As such, the 2 bedroom bronze suite you booked (our most economical on mountain accommodation) was the only dog friendly suite available at the price point you booked. That being said, we value the input regarding the suites' needing a renovation, and have gladly passed along this info to the property owner.

As for the complimentary guest shuttle we offer, this is something that we started this year, in response to guest demand - (see earlier reviews below!). As the quite prominent sign at Front Desk points out, the shuttle runs between 8.45 am and 10.45 am daily. Because we are offering this as a complimentary service, we cannot unfortunately offer an 'on-demand' service as I hope you can appreciate. We find that the majority of people here to ski are heading up to the lifts between 9 am and 10.30 am, hence the hours of operation. Should this become something we receive regular guest feedback on, we will certainly look to adjust our hours of operation.

Again I would like to thank you for your feedback, and to let you know that we have taken note of your suggestions. We invite you to reconsider returning to Fernie, and we are glad that you enjoyed the Mountain while you were here.

Kind Regards,
Juliana Dare

We stayed at Juniper Lodge in Fernie, BC June 29,2012 for a week. It was very quiet during our stay. The condo we stayed in we got through Interval Exchange from our timeshare deposit. The condo is well looked after and is situated at the entry to the ski resort area. It is close enough to walk to the ski area. We walked to the store just 2 minutes up the hill. It has beer, wine and some groceries etc.we stayed in a one bedroom condo with granite counters, full kitchen and flat screen TV too. All the comforts of home! It has a nice jacuzzi tub very close to our unit-610 in the walk out ground floor unit.
All in all it was a nice resort with a short 3-5 minute drive into the town of Fernie. We would return here!
