“Beautiful setting”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

We recently stayed for 2 nights in an 'executive room' number 103. The room had beautiful views over Lake Mercier and the garden. One or two problems with our room. A pillowcase on the bed was stained and had a hair on. Also there was beer spilled on the coffee tray on which clean cups had been placed. The TV cabinet had pieces gouged out of it (it looked as if an animal had chewed along the edge. It is for this lack of attention to detail that we have slightly marked down the hotel. On the positive side the room well equipped and comfortable. We had the 2 day getaway package which included dinner. On the website at the time we booked it stated 'gourmet dinner'. There was also an example of a typical 4 course dinner, However, though the food was good, it was more Belgian cafe than Gourmet (we know we lived in Brussels for 5 years). The menu had an extensive choice of moules/frites! An allowance of 67 Canadian dollars per couple per meal was given in the restaurant, so not what we were led to believe at the time of booking. This was not apparent on the website. The tables were not set correctly (a knife and fork rolled up in a serviette), no side plate and no separate knife to butter bread. The tablecloth was covered, with not very elegant paper which had a slight grey hue, more what one would expect in a cafe than a hotel restaurant. Again lack of attention to detail. The food was beautifully cooked and tasted good, but not the experience we expected from the website. Also the restaurant catered for my gluten allergy and tasted delicious. The waiting staff were very friendly and gave good service. Would we stay again? Would we recommend it? MOST DEFINITELY , but would advise the owners to give more attention to detail, check out the bedrooms and up date the website!

Room Tip: Ground floor executive in the annex. The rooms have small veranda with direct access to the garden...

Stayed here in 2011 when cycling the P’tit Train du Nord the first time. This time we upgraded to the rooms in the separate building and were able to put our bikes in our room, although they do have a separate storage area for them in the main building. Room was spacious, clean with mini-fridge. Ground level had patio doors onto lawn and pool. Included breakfast was an extended continental and was fine. Restaurant wasn’t open for dinner for some reason so ate next door at the Hotel Mont Tremblant restaurant which was a great meal. Would have no difficulty in recommending this place.

We had a fine suite, fine view of the water, good facilities. We were directed to the interesting sites nearby, we enjoyed a walk along the lake, and also into the village. It was a short drive to the ski and fun venues at the hill, and also the casino.

Stayed @ their Chalet P.
Nasty, to avoid because:
- mold & mildew in basement
- basement dark, damp and dungy
- half of bedrooms offered are in that basement
- dirty outdated furniture (would have not minded the retro look if at least clean!)
- patio door broken
- kitchen equipped with broken & dirty elements

Need i say more!

We appreciate that you took the time to write a review. The details you described in your report surprised us and we wish to reassure you that measures have already been taken to rectify the concerns you brought to light. Auberge La Porte Rouge is a family run establishment and we have enjoyed an excellent reputation as innkeepers here in Mont-Tremblant for 67 years with many delighted guests returning year after year.

Regarding our rates, these are clearly laid out and available to anyone online. In this instance, the 1000$ price you mentioned corresponds to a group of 7 persons staying 2 nights in a 4 bedroom chalet. That price includes a four course dinner and full breakfast for each person. Included as well is free access to the beach , our outdoor heated pool and free use of canoes, kayaks and pedal-boats. The price breakdown including all of the above comes to a total of $140 per person.

While we regret that your particular experience with us was not the best, we honestly feel the price of $140 per person staying 2 nights in a very spacious chalet during high season in Mont-Tremblant is indeed a very fair price.

All the best to you and your family,
The administration

Furnishings in rooms were dated which is probably why they can be offered at this low price. However, I'm sensitive to odors and I thought our room smelled of carpet and upholstery materials that need to be replaced. May not bother anyone else.

Our stay was August 16. We lucked out and took the superior room package. The room was clean with two balconies with a street view and lake view. We thought the price was reasonable. Customer service excellent. Complaints zero.

We would return and recommend.

We stayed here for two nights in July as part of a cycling package on Le P'tit Train du Nord. Our room (standard room) was not large, but it was very clean and comfortable. The room faced Lac Mercier on one side, with a small balcony, and faced a fairly busy street on the other side. We were concerned that street noise at night might be a problem, but it did not trouble us. Traffic was pretty minimal at night. The hotel provided secure storage for our bicycles. Breakfasts and dinners at the attached restaurant were included with our package, and the food in the restaurant was very good. Service in the restaurant was also good. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel provides access to a public beach on Lac Mercier, directly opposite the hotel, as well as a small private beach with a nice pool. There are kayaks, canoes, paddleboats available for use at the private beach. We will definitely stay at La Porte Rouge again. However, I think next time we will spend the extra money for one of the superior rooms. They are larger and in a separate building, closer to Lac Mercier and directly opposite the private beach and pool.
