We were at Cleveland s House a few times last summer. Lodgings were very rustic/Canadiana, the atmosphere great. This year we went for Father's Day and really enjoyed our waterfront renovated suite. It was much more than we expected! The staff has always been incredible, the facilities family oriented and comforting. Regardless of the weather, the pool was very warm and the huge hot tub just perfect, even in the rain! I went canoeing and kayaking while my husband got sun burned on the beach. The water park is amazing. The beach is shallow and nice. Remember to order the ribs and enjoy the ice cream bar. We will be going back later this summer. Unfortunately we do not play tennis, mountain bike, golf or use the gym. Don't forget to go to the bakery. The staff is super friendly and you can have a Starbucks and a yoga class or not.

Room Tip: ask in advance if they have any waterfront left. we were in beachfront .

Our visit's to Cleveland's House have never disappointed. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. We have stayed in the cabins for vacation the last few years and we love being a Cleveland's House Family. Our five boys start the countdown to our next visit as we leave the parking lot. We often drive from the Durham Region to spend the day and have dinner at the restaurant. The kids have attended the camps on our vacations and the camp counselors have always been kind, energetic and make the boy's feel at home and relaxed. The staff in both the resort and restaurant are just amazing. Great place for young families but don't be surprised to see adults.. If you ask them, they too have been coming to Cleveland's House for years and have great memories of time spent together in what can only be called a piece of heaven.

We took advantage of a Wag Jag deal. The deal included a round of Golf at the Rock with cart for two and Breakfast.
We had another couple with us and we had a great time.
When we arrived our cottage was not ready, it looked like no one ever stayed in it. I contacted the front desk and right away Brandy the Manager came by and fixed everything. She gave us a 2 bed room newer cottage and a few extras.
We were very happy with the service and during dinner there was a solo live musician.
The next morning we had buffet breakfast and all was great.
People expect so much more from deals that are already good, so don't get wrapped up in some of the negative reviews you read. This resort is older and they are doing renovations throughout. My advice to people who go here is enjoy nature, the beach and forget the City life.
I will be back to

Spent 7 years in a row at Cleves for a week long family holiday. This was the perfect place to go with small children as it was a huge number of kid and family activities. Their kid camp is second to none with excellent activities, lots of flexibility to take your kids in and out of the group and wonderful, caring counsellors.
Waterfront is beautiful with lovely sand beach, docks for fishing and now a water park.
Rooms were always pretty shabby but some refresh has been done lately but premises are slipping a bit lately (ie. colour cube and kid area now in need of paint, carpet and refresh) . Recent changes have done away with all inclusive option and now meals charged seperately (and are expensive) so you might want to look at other dining options.
Still worth going to for the family experience and wonderful waterfront.
Hopefully Cleves can find their way without alienating their longtime regular clients.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room. Renovated 2 bedroom terrace suite was great.

Cleves was a yearly event for us, brought my boat up and enjoyed the Muskoka experience year after year. Just as change was happening at the resort we decided to buy a cottage and for the past three summers we have not been to the resort. But special memories tug at you and create a desire to revisit special moments in your life. So being a Google fanatic I came looking for Cleves again with the intent of forgoing the cottage for a long weekend and reliving some wonderful memories at this very special place. I know that you have to be careful when reading reviews as some people have an axe to grind and trash a perfectly good resort. But what I read here is different....reviews written by Cleves people and probably past Cleves Kids, those that believe in a place and can be a little blind to the idiosyncrasies that we all knew existed there. But that was just Cleves! To read so many negative reviews from previous supporters of the resort (with some very disturbing details) breaks my heart. I have learned in my life there are times when "you can not go back"....so I am happy that I have become forewarned. I will forget about my plan to revisit my wonderful past at Cleves and try and remember it as it was. I had hoped to take grandchildren back as I had seen other grandparents do while there on vacation with the kids.......guess not. Hope someone wakes up before it is too late!

This was our first summer vacationing at Clevelands House in the beautiful Muskokas and it won’t be the last. I give this resort two thumbs up! The kids program was really first rate (our kids didn’t want to leave there at the end of each day) and the location and activities were great for the adults.
While it’s apparent that the entire resort is undergoing improvements and upgrades in both structure (improvements to update rooms etc.) and service (a change from meal plan to a la carte in the on-site restaurant), the helpful and friendly staff more than made up it. While all of the staff deserve mention here (everyone we ran into including management, demonstrated absolute professionalism and a positive “can-do” attitude) a special thanks goes to Brooke and Kara-Lynn who really made an extra effort to make our stay enjoyable.
As newcomers we heard a lot of comments about “what it used to be like at Cleves”. No question, there are changes. Maybe it was partly the benefit of not having any previous expectations, but we found that that the good parts greatly outweighed the bad and we are excited to return next summer.
The location is close enough to drive from Toronto but far enough away to feel remote. Our rooms were nice and clean with a view of the water and the marina. Some people evidently had trouble with their accommodations but we stayed in the North Lodge and had no problems. There was even a free “hall monitor” that enabled us to leave the room once the kids were asleep for a couple of drinks in the evening without having to organize babysitting (which is also easily available for a charge if you need it). It sounds like there are serious renos expected over the winter…we saw the models and they look great so any issues with the accommodations will hopefully be resolved.
We were happily surprised by a water ski show of the caliber I had never seen! This year’s theme was Toy Story and I’m still smiling at the hilarious dialogue and antics of the announcer. The water skiers and the stunts were outstanding.
The kids program was really good. Our children are Kindergarten age and wanted to go back there every day and I think they would have worn out the “Colour-cube” (sort of McDonald’s Playland on steroids) if it weren’t for all the other fun activities available (swimming daily, waterskiing, arts and crafts etc.).
My husband and I enjoyed our quiet couple time as we walked to Abby’s Bakery everyday. We had massages, joined in some of the games (even won some Cleve’s bucks that could be put toward purchases on the resort). We also went waterskiing and enjoyed a pontoon boat tour. We never left the resort although next year I think we will sample some of the local restaurants.
Cleve’s appears to be near the end of a transition and it is not the exact same place as it once was. This is understandably frustrating for some people who have been visiting each summer for many, many years. From the perspective of a newcomer however, it had the good stuff we had heard about and the end of the transition is visible on the horizon. We met other families who we and our kids look forward to seeing during the same week next year and hopefully many years to come. We left happy at the end of our week at Cleve’s and would definitely recommend a visit.

Like many others, did a two night stay in early October attracted by great golf rate at The Rock. Had been to Cleveland's House many times with children were young but had not been back for likely 15 years. Rustic equals worn down but we had no high expectation. Ate off premise both nights and had great meals. Here lies the disappoinment - we booked a second 9 hole round our last am before we were due to leave. The day of departure, we woke up to a need to be back to the city sooner, called the pro shop at The Rock at 7 am and since they were yet to open, left a voice mail advising we would not be back. In the meantime we checked out, advising front desk we would not by playing and asked for 9 hole charge to come off. Said they could not remove for some reason due to package code /software but would have addressed and send credit. Is now 4 weeks later, golf course is closed, husband has contacted resort a few times and we have yet to see credit. Disappointed. Will not return.
