“Loved Lunenburg Arms!!!”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

Right from check in the friendly staff made you feel welcome. We travelled with our bulldog and they were very accommodating. The room we had booked was the exact room we were given and it was beautiful! Overlooking the docks and the water and it was stocked with very nice amenities. The bed, along with pillows etc, was probably the most comfortable bed I've ever had the pleasure of sleeping in. Excellent location, we could walk everywhere from the hotel and enjoy the beautiful town and its' lovely atmosphere. The morning we checked out it was raining and the front desk gave us an umbrella so we could pack up the vehicle without getting wet. A great gesture from the excellent employees at a top notch hotel. We can't wait to return Lunenburg and this terrific establishment!

Room Tip: Try to book a room over looking the water front, you will not be disappointed!

We booked a regular queen room at Lunenburg Arms so didn't have a water view. Our room was quite small and faced the street so nothing special, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. I do think it is overpriced compared to other hotels we stayed at in Nova Scotia but Lunenburg is a small town. Except for large cities, everywhere we stayed in Canada still had the old tube TV's. We weren't there to watch TV but flat screens are pretty cheap these days so it surprised me that some of the higher end places hadn't converted yet. Breakfast was continental only: bread, muffins, boiled eggs, maybe yogurt. The dining area is nice though. The location was very convenient for walking to the wharf and restaurants.

Room Tip: Book directly with the hotel. I used Booking.com and I'm pretty sure we got their worst room...

Although we were expecting a bed and breakfast experience we were happy with our stay here. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff pleasant although the a/c was extraordinarily noisy. The Town of Lunenburg is quaint but don't do the horse drawn wagon tour. Our tour guide was woefully ignorant of the history of Lunenburg outside what was written on the plaques on some buildings - what a missed opportunity. We found a fantastic guide to the architecture in Lunenburg in the lobby of our hotel written by a local town official! Wish our tour guide had read it!

Room Tip: The Arms markets view from the window which I don't understand - we barely spent any enough time...

We loved the town of Lunenburg, which is about as picturesque a town as you'll find anywhere. We traveled a lot through the western part of Nova Scotia and enjoyed a lot of the trip, but when we got into Lunenburg it really felt exactly like what we expected from the province.

This is also exactly what the Lunenburg Arms was. Clean, comfortable but also modern and quirky. No, there wasn't a true water view but the town itself is just as beautiful. Our room was pretty amazing, divided into a living room and bedroom with a luxurious bathroom in-between. We want to return here some time soon to spend a few more days when we have a chance.

Finally getting around to this review after staying here in autumn 2011.

Stayed here one night on a driving tour of Nova Scotia. Had pretty high expectations from the reviews here, their website and Eden branding. All in all, we had a fine stay but I'm not sure that I'd return for the price, compared to other properties in the area.

+ Room spotless, modern and adequate in size for a heritage building
+ Location is great, very central in Lunenburg heritage area
+ All the basics firmly in place, including good, easy wifi

- Everything felt very much like a "big hotel" experience, not a boutique
- Reception desk was unmanned when we arrived in the middle of the afternoon, waited for about 10 minutes before someone finally came around
- Big tube TV, not that I was going to watch TV while in Lunenburg, but really?
- Onsite spa pushing tanning, botox and other cosmetic treatments, and not very subtly

Especially worth noting is that the property is one block from the water. So the "harbor view" rooms are not directly on the water or even across the street. Our view was more of the backs of the adjacent buildings, with the water above in the distance. Didn't match the expectations set from the website and I suspect other properties offer much better views...

Lunenburg is one of the most picturesque towns you could ever find, and the Lunenburg Arms is perfectly situated to enhance your visit. The colourful wooden building fits in with the brightly coloured old wooden houses laid out on a grid pattern on hilly ground above the harbour. The hotel is just a couple of blocks from the water. We didn't take a harbour view room, but we still had a glimpse of the water from our window on the side of the building. You can walk to anything in town. We saw the well-done Fisheries Museum, complete with fishing boat in the harbour, and saw the Bluenose II in dry dock for repairs. Our room was a fair size, although the bathroom was small, with almost no counter space. There were fluffy robes and window AC. There was an easy chair and small writing table with chair. The woodwork and paint were clean and new looking, creating a very fresh, bright appearance, but there was a lack of art anywhere. The floor, unfortunately, was laminate, which crackled underfoot. There wasn't much of a lobby, but there was a computer to use, as well as wireless Internet. We enjoyed our stay very much. There seems to be some discrepancy on the rating of this hotel, whether it is 3 stars or 4.5. If that is, perhaps, because there is no TV, I would consider that a plus, and definitely vote for 4 stars. There are lots of eateries on the waterfront. We chose the Old Fish Factory, right on the water in the museum complex, which was excellent.

We stayed for two nights in July. When I booked online the harbourview room was no longer available, however I put in a request for one in the event that one became available in the meantime. When we checked in they have remembered my request and indicated that we would be able to switch rooms the following day which we did. Both rooms were nice but the Harborview room was a little larger and had the beautiful view. The rooms are super clean and very comfortable. We decided to leave the windows open for the fresh air. Overall an excellent place to stay. Staff are super friendly as well. Only minor issue was one window we were not able to open as the mechanism did not work. The continental breakfast is really limited so we went out the next day. We would definitely stay here again. Great location with free parking and comfortable and welcoming environment.
