“The "Icing on the Cake"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2014

In April, my wife and I were planning a late June driving tour through Nova Scotia and decided to spend two nights in Lunenburg. Ashlea House B&B had received great reviews from other Trip Advisor members so we decided that would be the place to stop. It was a very good move. The B&B has a wonderful street presence (you like it immediately) and is well maintained and conveniently located near the center of town. The common areas inside are very bright, open, and nicely furnished and decorated. Our room (Cottage Room) was on the third floor (not a problem for us but could be difficult for people in poor health or with physical limitations). But, with that said the room was great. It was extremely clean with an en suite bath and a very comfortable queen size bed. The quality of the B&B was perfectly paired with the quality of the hosts (John and Lynn). Breakfasts were served at 8:30 AM for all guests: “Family Style”, hearty, filling, and totally enjoyable. Coffee was available at 7:30 AM so that guests (like me) can come down and get a morning starter to bring back to the room (which I always like to do when my wife and I travel). John and Lynn facilitate the breakfast table discussion and ensure that all questions are clearly answered. Plus, their obvious enjoyment in interfacing with guests is apparent. The good natured humor that they weave into the morning discussions is a great way to start the day. For my wife and me, Lunenburg turned out to be a wonderful stop on our route around Nova Scotia and Ashlea House (with John and Lynn as the Innkeepers) turned out to be the “icing on the cake”. It is an exceptional B&B and totally deserving of the excellent ratings that it receives.

Room Tip: The Cottage Room has a view of the harbor.

My wife and I spent two great nights at this historic and terrific B&B. The House is architecturally gorgeous and the rooms are elegant. Great location - just a 5-10 minute picturesque walk to the restaurant area on the harbour. The hosts go beyond the expected with suggestions and directions on sites to see in scenic Lunenburg. Others have written about the gourmet breakfasts. Here's what you can expect: free-range pork sausage cakes, home-made baked beans, omelette with local cheese, hungarian roasted pepper and veggies dish, toast, jams, coffee, pan-fried non-commercial hash browns, orange juice - you get the picture! There is a gorgeous gazebo to relax in and an upper floor deck. Free fast WiFi. You can't miss with Ashlea House.

A beautiful historic house just a short (2 min) walk to everything Lunenburg has to offer. The house and grounds were very well maintained by the owners John and Lynn. The accommodations were a very relaxing place to hang out after busy day trips in Lunenburg and the surrounding towns.
Breakfasts were a highlight of the stay. Everything was made from scratch and there was plenty of delicious food. I recommend planning on late lunches. If you leave the table hungry, it's your own fault.
John and Lynn are very friendly and provide guests with historical information as well as points of interests to visit in the area.
This is my second trip to Lunenburg and the third B&B there that I've stayed. It is by far the best of the three and I am looking forward to my next stay with them.

We stayed a quick night on our way to Cape Breton Island- and really enjoyed all aspects of staying here. Our room was spacious, clean, nicely decorated and very quiet. The hosts were welcoming, gracious and very informative. Breakfast was more than good- eggs, sausage, potatoes, beans, stewed apples, yogurt, toast, fresh oj, coffee, tea, etc. all really tasty! John and Lynn made sure we had all the information needed to head out for our day. Great value and perfect location! Highly recommend!l

Room Tip: We stayed in the family room- a room for my husband and myself- with an attached room with two twin...

The Ashlea House is a great location for visiting Lunenburg, only a few minutes walk from the Harbour front. We liked the stylish ambience of the house (some antique furniture from Lynn's family) with a big living room for the guests. Our room was spacious and we slept well in a comfortable bed. Well, our room was in the 1st floor without Harbour view, but we did not miss that. The greatest thing was Lynn's and John's breakfast which they prepared freshly and they considered our personal wishes. Delicious!
And if you like dogs, Schooner will also like you. Sympatic third member of the Management :-)

We really enjoyed our stay in the Cottage Room at the Ashlea House. The view of the harbour from our room was excellent. The owners, John & Lynn, were very hospitable and pleasant, their information very helpful. The homey breakfast was complete with local produce.

Room Tip: Ask for the Cottage room which faces the harbour.

We had an excellent time with Lynn, John and Schooner. They joined in our laughter and truly made our quick trip memorable. Lynn even picked up a couple of essential items for us so that we could begin our relaxation the moment we arrived. Breakfast was beyond delicious and was rated "best meal of the trip" by two members of our group.
I would return in a heart beat.
