“The best B&B experience you could ask for!!!”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

My daughter and I loved our two days in John and Lynn's very historic B & B in Lunenburg.
The room was so comfortable, the food great, information on the town first rate BUT the very best thing of all were our hosts.....John and Lynn and Schooner the dog!!
After about 1/2 hour, we felt as if we were longtime friends.
Treat yourselves to a very special experience and go stay at Ashlea House!!!!!

Lynn and John are gracious hosts who share their comfortable home (and dog!) with a feeling like you are instant family. The B and B is within walking distance of Lunenburg's main area, so we never needed a car (or parking spot!) while there. The breakfast they provided always included several items so you never went away hungry! Our room was very large and comfortable (the AC was appreciated) and spotless. The bed was very comfy! I'd highly recommend staying here if you want to see Lunenburg...but stay several nights...there's a lot to do and this is a great base to see it from!

Room Tip: The third floor room was large and quiet, but it did require ascending some narrow stairs, so if you...

We stayed in the family room with our two children on an overnight trip to Lunenburg, and were pleased to find the reviews of this B&B lived up to our expectations. Our kids were particularly delighted by the watchtower at the top of this beautiful character Victorian house. The family room, a former nursery, was bright with pretty linens and thoughtful touches. Our hosts suggested several good spots where we could enjoy a fish dinner in downtown Lunenburg, just a five minute walk away. We thoroughly enjoyed the communal breakfast of cinnamon apples, yogurt, eggs, sausage, and berry pancakes. One of the nicest experiences was being able to visit with other guests from around the world - later that day, we all found ourselves on the same rock beach recommended by Lynn and John. Thank you for this lovely experience in Nova Scotia!

One nite stop for two couples from Boston and Denver as we traveled around NS. Great hosts with wonderful breakfast food- terrific advice about local routes for next part of our trip and time in the area- great local restaurant advice. Stay here if you're in the area....

Lynn and John are absolutely wonderful hosts. They have a lovely home with lots of fun stories that they are eager to share. Our room on the third floor was so worth the trek up three flights of stairs - the little sitting room just outside our door and access to the fourth floor 'widow's watch' made it extra special. Breakfast was unbelievably good and plentiful. I hope we get to visit again someday.

Our family of 4 had the pleasure of staying at the Ashlea House for 5 nights. John and Lynn were absolutely wonderful. Very welcoming and quick to answer questions. Prior to arriving, I must have emailed Lynn a dozen times with questions on how to best plan our week in the area. She answered each email with a wealth of great advice. We stayed in the Family Suite which was perfect for us. Our pre-teen and teenager enjoyed the separate room with 2 twin beds as it gave them some privacy away from their parents. :-). And the master suite was perfect for my husband and I. We awoke every morning to the wonderful smells of breakfast cooking in the kitchen. Breakfast every morning was exceptional. We would definitely return to the Ashlea House if our travels take us to Nova Scotia again.

We had a wonderful stay in June with Lynn and John at the Ashlea house. It is in great proximity for walking to town and various restaurants and also the pub. It was enjoyable to be able to do this after driving. They suggested a few places to eat, provided maps and directions and we were NOT let down in this department. It is said that Lunenburg and Digby have an ongoing contest on who has the best scallops.... I can say first hand, Lunenburg wins ....no contest. I too was a little skeptical about the breakfast all together at 8:30 but I must say, it was an overall wonderful meal as well as a delightful experience where we learned a great deal about the history of the Ashlea house and also a lot about touring the surrounding area. It was really great and Lynn and John are a fine tuned team making it a relaxing morning meal. The rooms are not necessarily over the top but are more than adequate. There is nothing but positive to say about this place and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues, most rooms are on the second or third floor.
