The new Fish Shack is among the best fish and chip places in Nova Scotia, giving Murphy's in Truro, the gold standard, a run for its money. The fish had a light and flavourful batter, not at all greasy. The haddock was fresh from the sea. Hand cut fries were excellent. There are tables down stairs and on the patio. We had dogs along so took our food up two blocks to the park. Enjoying the fine food with the beautiful town spread out below on a lovely day was near perfect. The place also serves clams, scallops and lobster rolls. All fresh, certainly. There is a lobster tank under the front window. This restaurant is worth the drive from Halifax.

“BEST FISH AND CHIPS>>>> EVER”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

This place just opened this summer and is off to a great start! The fish and chips are the best I have ever tasted..... the chips alone are reason enough to go here! The menu is simple and straight forward. You order, pick up order and seat yourself..... no waiter service. The decks offer a great view of Lunenburg's port.

Definitely recommend especially on a clear Nova Scotia day! Go there you won't regret it.

“Get the Digby Clams!”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

The Digby clams were wonderful (large & succulent). My husband's fish and chips were great too.

If there is a line outside, don't be put off by it. They only allow 2-4 people at a time inside to order and so the line is for those waiting to order. Again, another place that does not open until noon but well worth the wait.

“Oh My Goodness!”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

I have wanted to try this restaurant out since it opened and I got the perfect excuse when I had visitors from out of town. Efficient and friendly staff. Outside eating, fun and casual. FANTASTIC seafood and home frites. We had fish and chips as well as clams and chips. Fresh seafood, just the right amount of light and crispy batter...Oh My!! Loved it.

“A little bit of heaven on a hot summers day.”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

This new spot (July 2014) is on Montague Street, a strip in Lunenburg that features numerous good restaurants. You need to be first rate to compete here and the South Shore Fish Shack is a great contender for longevity. It's a good plan: simple menu, top notch seafood, and a patio with a killer view. You can get takeout or take a seat outside. The scallops were among the best we've had anywhere. We loved the fries too, and their spicy sauce which was a nice change from the traditional tartar sauce. Our food was prepared quickly and we got it steaming hot. Plus, they have two varieties of Propeller on tap which you can get by the glass or the pitcher.
