We stayed at Blanket and Spoon for a splendid four nights and four wonderful breakfasts. The house is in a very secluded setting and it is very tranquil and relaxing. Warm evenings were spent reading on the verandah or rear deck. As we did so, deer would venture into the garden from the surrounding woodland. We had a pleasant impression of being out in the back country but good places for evening meals were only 10 to 15 minutes drive away.

Our suite was in the main house but Shayne and Carol maintained a discreet presence which made us feel that we had the whole ground floor as our own home. The location is ideal for both the south and central parts of the island as well as for the ferry or airport at Nanaimo.

We stayed at The Blanket and Spoon for three nights and it was our best B and B experience ever. We were upgraded to the Carriage House suite which is absolutely beautiful and would exceed the standards of any five star hotel. The hot tub was an extra bonus and we enjoyed a glass of wine watching the dragonflies dancing in the air. Shayne and Carol are perfect hosts and the breakfasts are to die for. We had something different every day and Shayne certainly knows how to produce creative and delicious menus. The Blanket and Spoon is located in a very quiet area which makes for a peaceful and relaxing stay. We cannot recommend it highly enough.

We stayed at The Blanket and Spoon as our last stop on a two week tour of southern and central Vancouver Island where we enjoyed very good accommodation wherever we went. But The Blanket and Spoon was exceptional, absolutely faultless and impossible to improve. We stayed in The Carriage House next to the main house and it was absolutely wonderful. So much care had been taken to make The Carriage House perfect. It was immaculately decorated with a large, well equipped room. Fantastic, large comfortable double bed; nice sitting area inside, sun deck with hot tub, beautiful gardens where you could sit anywhere you like; perfectly quiet with no light pollution at night; wild deer wandering through the garden; air con with a large ceiling fan as well; good wifi; wonderful walk-in shower room; immaculately clean - everything was just perfect. To cap it all we then had breakfast each day in the main house which was absolutely delicious with Shayne taking great care and pride over what he presented.

So the room/house is just perfect - what else? Well it is located in quite an interesting position. Whilst you feel you are in the middle of wild countryside you are in fact near to facilities and only a short drive from the main highway just a couple of miles away and Nainamo Airport is perhaps ten to fifteen minutes away with Duke Point Ferry to Vancouver also being close - yet you would never know it as it is absolutely silent. But a fantastic first or last point before your travel to Vancouver either by ferry or plane. Flying to Vancouver and then taking the hop into Nainamo Airport would be how we do it next time.

We enjoyed driving under ten minutes to the beautiful coastline nearby where there are a couple of small national park areas with rocky coves from which you can swim in beautiful clear water with virtually no other people around. It is also a short drive to a great place to eat - Mahle House. Great food in relaxed surroundings.

We travel a lot and have been lucky to stay in some great places but The Blanket and Spoon is impossible to improve as place to stay for several days. If you are travelling to Vancouver Island this would make a great first or last place to stay before or after a long journey if you are choosing the Nainamo route option. As a side comment - we drove from the Blanket and Spoon to drop off our Budget Rent a Car in Nanaimo and they dropped us off at the port with a regular shuttle car which made our whole experience even better.

Thank you Shayne and Carol - you should feel very proud of what you have created!

We recently spent 3 nights at the Blanket & Spoon and can't say enough good things. We stayed in the carriage house, which was like having your own little (actually, big!) studio apartment. Recently renovated, everything feels shiny and new, especially the "shower room." This is a custom area they created with beautiful tile all around (simulated stone underfoot) which you will not want to leave! We used the outdoor hot-tub every day, and seeing the overhead stars while lounging in the water was absolutely wonderful. They serve a 3-course breakfast every morning, and the food is superb, as is the conversation with our gracious hosts, Shayne & Carol. Thanks guys for a great trip!

Room Tip: Get the king suite in the carriage house (a separate building). It's like having your own apartm...

The Blanket and Spoon is a wonderful B&B to stay for vacation, a romantic weekend getaway or whatever your reason maybe. Shayne and Carol are excellent hosts and really create a special experience for their guests. Take advantage of the breakfast, the best you will have on Vancouver Island!

wonderfull B&B in lovely setting with great hosts. We stayed at the carriage house with our own entrance while we had a breakfast in the sun on the deck, cooked by a real chef, who, as he said, is really into breakfast and that is an understatement.

Room Tip: we stayed at the carriage house, as they have two rooms
