We stayed at Taboo for 4 nights last July 2013. The 2 bedroom suite was beautiful with a stunning view of the lake. We have 3 children ages 9,5 and 4. The pool heater was broken all week and my kids did not want to swim in it. We complained many times but were told they were "working on it". It was still cold by the end of our stay. The service by the pool was not very good.
We went on a scavenger hunt which was basically here is a bag and go find what you see in the picture.
The kayaking was very nice but the waterskiing boat was broken the day my daughter tried to go out.
The restaurants are very expensive for a family of 5. Our bill was close to $200 every meal with only a couple of drinks each.
Overall, the place is nice but limited appeal for families and not overly accomodating.

lesleycv, Thank you for taking the time to review your summer 2013 stay for us and other TripAdvisor readers. Agree, the Lake Muskoka vista from our Platinum Suites is pretty terrific. Families are definitely important to us at Taboo Muskoka. This summer expect significantly enhanced activity options and improved overall and children's dining options. Our new senior management team is committed to making sure service is consistent across the resort and that we provide great experiences and genuine value. Lesley, please consider returning to Taboo, perhaps for one of our other family holidays like Easter weekend.

I've been to Taboo resort many times - to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries and I am impressed every time I am there. The staff go out of their way to be helpful and make it memorable for you and the resort is a great blend of activities and relaxation. I find weekends there pass by quickly because there's a lot to see and do. The rooms are large and lovely, the food is interesting and innovative and the resort is a very much worth the money. From the personalized messages left for us in the room to the welcome we received on the golf course, I have many amazing memories of time spent at Taboo.

Resort is very elegant and service is top-notch. Any issues are resolved courteously and efficiently. Amazing views. Complimentary winter activities (although somewhat limited during our stay) were well appreciated. Music in the lobby on certain nights was fantastic. Very nice place to go when you want to relax. Spa is well worth a try.

Room Tip: Superior Lakeside was fantastic

We spent 2 nights in a Platinum Suite for March Break with our kids ages 7 and 9. The suite was great - we loved the two bedroom layout and the large TV in the living area. The view was amazing - we would love it even more in the summer. The included buffet breakfast was great. We really enjoyed the Owl Prowl with Robin Tapley. He is a wealth of outdoor knowledge and made it very interesting for the kids. The equipment provided for snowshoeing and cross country skiing is high quality and new. The resort charged for many of the extras like tie-dye t shirts, Owl Prowl, and Sugar Shack/Maple Syrup. The $20 fee for the tie dye shirts is excessive. It's a $5 Taboo shirt and a little dye and it took about 15-20 minutes to complete. We had dinner in the Fireside Pub both nights and it was OK but not great. It's a limited menu for adults but the kids enjoyed it. The resort staff are friendly and accommodating. We would return!

Druxys: Thanks so much for choosing to spend March Break at Taboo Muskoka and sharing the details of your stay with TripaAdvisor readers. Glad you enjoyed our Resident Naturalist Robin Tapley and the Owl Prowl. He really is an all-things-Muskoka guru. Your comments about the tie dye tees and pub menu have been passed on to our activities and dining teams. We do hope to see you back to repeat the Taboo Platinum Suite view of Lake Muskoka in summer or fall. Meantime, stay well!

My family and I spent a few nights at Taboo over March Break. My friend owns a 4 bedroom chalet on the property and invited us to come up. The chalets are available to rent by the night as well. The chalet is very spacious and comfortable with one bedroom and full bath on the main floor, a large master and full bath on the second floor along with 2 other bedrooms upstairs. The chalet sleeps 8+ people. There is a large family/ dining area and a well equipped kitchen. The hotel had many family friendly activities planned for the week of March Break. We participated in the Owl Prowl: an hour long hike on snowshoes through the forest. Our guide Robin was unbelievable! He is so knowledgeable and passionate about the great outdoors. He taught us winter survival skills such as how to stay warm and about plants that are edible. Even though we didn't see any owls, Robin called other birds such as chickadees and woodpeckers which we did have a chance to observe. We had dinner at the Pub in the hotel, not bad. The game room is fun, it has a pool table, shuffle board and dart board. The property is large and very beautiful. We walked along the frozen lake and really enjoyed all that winter has to offer. I recommend this resort to families and couples. They offer something for everyone!

Bonjoy16,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review, we are glad to hear you and your family had such a great time at Taboo Muskoka over the March break. The Owl Prowl is definitely a fun and unique experience and you’ll have no better guide than Robin. Hopefully you never get yourself into a situation where you actually have to use your new winter survival skills! We appreciate your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back to the resort in the near future.
