My husband and I spent 2 nights here during the last week they are open during the year. I had wanted to book something other than an enormous resort to get out in the country and experience nature without staying somewhere that looks like someone took their old furniture and tacky decorations and opened up a B&B. This place couldn't be anymore idyllic. The cabins are first class all the way with the lodge feeling I was looking for. Beautiful wood floors, log beds, down comforters, fireplace and no TV! There is also a lovely river that runs along side it as well. The main lodge is also beautiful and whoever their interior designer is was well worth the money. The other plus is that their is the tallest waterfull in Canada (Takkawkaw Falls) 11 km. up the road from the lodge, which we would have missed had we not stayed here. It was beautiful.

The complimentary breakfast was also wonderful. Fabulous pastries, fresh fruit and croissants, bagels and cereals came with the room price. We also had dinner there one night. It was extremely spendy, not at all worth the money. The chef should try to vary the menu and I don't know what he did to the tenderloin but it was terrible(at $39 a plate). Also, I ordered a glass of wine and there was barely 4 oz. in the glass. ($14 a glass). It was more like a wine tasting serving than a glass. Ridiculous. Also, the wine selection was terrible too. I did try 2 different wines, neither one being decent. Do yourself a favor and buy your own wine and have a glass in your room before going out for dinner.

So to recap, stay here, just eat dinner somewhere else.

We stayed at the Cathedral Mountain Lodge for one night. There were four of us, all adults, so we were accommodated in a River view Log Cabin with loft, one queen bed on the lower level, two singles on the loft level.

Lovely room full of character, wood fireplace, one minute walk from the river.

Although we were four adults, the room was really only ready for two, for example bathroom toiletries were not enough for four, there were only two coffee cups, one packet of coffee, no tea.....went looking for more supplies at 06.30 but the hotel was totally closed - no phone so no room service.

We ate at the restaurant, lovely setting and again full of character. An Elk walked past our window through the parking lot whilst we were eating! Food was good but not excellent, however the price shocked us, we have eaten in the some of the best restauranrts in Calgary such as the Belvedere, River Cafe, Murietta's and found these to offer higher standard food and cheaper pricing. The menu selction was very limited - appetizers, main course and desert - 4 choices of each.

It's a nice hotel, but for a log cabin experience, go North to Japser at try the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge - rooms are better, dining is better and far more resonably priced.

My partner and I stayed at Cathedral Mountain for five nights just recently and thought it was very nice indeed. The cabins are well appointed and set in a nice woooded area. The food was great in the restaurant although we would probably agree with some other posts here that there could be more variation in the evening menu. Staff were also very efficient and helpful.

One thing that reallly surprises me is that no-one writing here has mentioned the proximity of this hotel to a very busy train track. Although the actual line is across the valley, we were woken up regularly during the night by the huge, heavy trains going through - often sounding their horns. I am a light sleeper anyway, but my partner is usually dead to the world and the fact that he was woken too made me want to mention this as future guests might want to consider it.

Truffle Pigs in Field is a great alternative to the hotel's dining room if the expense gets too much!

Spent a two night get away ,loved the atmosphere of the Log cabin and the quietness of the area. Really liked the fact that there was no TV or cell service.
The cabins were extremely well appointed and cosy.
The dining was excellent for both evening meals. Breakfast could have bben a litte more extensive.
We spent our evenings after diner around the outdoor fireplace chatting with fellow visitors (from California and Long Island).
We kept putting more logs on the fire and kept the conversation going for hours.
Relatives from Calgary visited the second night and enjoyed diner with us.
This would be an ideal place to do a family gathering in the late spring or early fall. Too bad it is not open for Thankgiving (Cdn Mid Oct)

We absolutely adored the new charming and luxurious cabins as well as the striking timberpeg main lodge at Cathedral Mountain. Our three children shared a spacious larger cabin, with high loft (steep ladder is not for little ones!). The cabins are decorated in rustic but luxurious twig furnishings with thick duvets and amusing decorative touches (like animal tiles in the bathroom and old fashioned skis and snowshoes on the walls). There are no TV's and also no cell phone service. Cathedral Mountain and Moraine Lake Lodge are "sister" hotels and we stayed at both. Cathedral is a much quieter spot, with somewhat less spectacular scenery than Moraine Lake, but very beautiful nonetheless, and completely away from crowds and tour buses. It is perfectly situated for Lake O'Hara and the beauty spots of Yoho National Park. Moraine Lake has smaller and more ordinary rooms, but spectacular views and truly gourmet dining (the food at Cathedral Mountain was very good but not as extroadinary as Moraine Lake).

We have just come back home from one week trip to Rocky Mountain. We stayed at Cathedral Mountain Lodge for 5 nights and spent very precious time. Log cabin was so nice and warm, and stone fireplace gave us very cozy and romantic atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the restaurant did not accept young child (our kid are 2 years old), but they were kind enough to bring our dinners to our cabin. So we enjoyed our meals in the private dining with crackling logs at the fireplace.
Just two things need to be improved.
First, there was a very limited menu for dinner (3appetizers, 3 entrees, 3 desserts, and a few daily specials), which did not change during our stay (don't worry, quality of foods was excellent!). After 2 dinners, we had to go out for different menus.
Second, we enjoyed breakfast provided by buffet style. If there were a few more cold hams or salamis, it would be great. Actually, we bought cold ham and salami at a supermarket in Banff (1 hour drive from this lodge), and enjoyed breakfasts in our cozy cabin.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay there, and wish to come back again in near future.

On our trip from Banff to Jasper N.P. we took a little detour and stayed for one night at the Cathedral Mountain Lodge. To our astonishment it was
not really situated in the "wilderness" but just 3 minutes away from Hwy.1 ! Although the way the lodge is build makes you feel a little bit like livin´ in the woods. We got a log cabin with a loft which was really nice. I can imagine that especially in winter it must be a very cozy place to stay. The only small problem beside the proximity of Hwy 1 is that there is no real variety in dining. There are only few restaurants in Fields which is about 10 minutes by car. Try the the Trufle pigs Cafe which was ok for us.
