“Friendly and well run”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2013

This cafe is in an old Howick settler cottage and is interesting to visit. It is well off the main street in a residential area so it is quite hard to find by accident. The rooms are small so the tables are a little cramped.

The food is home cooked in a large family style kitchen and is really good. We buy their large chicken and mushroom pies to take home for dinner. The coffee is excellent too.

We've been going for years and have never had anything substandard. The rear courtyard is sunny and away from the road. Great place.

“A pot at the end of the rainbow!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2011

I've only just discovered these lovely tea rooms due to meeting friends for brunch. The day we arrived was unusually cold considering we are now in summer, Shamrock Cottage was a welcome haven.
The building is an old "Fencible Cottage" that was built for soldiers back in the mid 1800's.
It has been lovingly restored and has a very unpretentious rustic atmosphere, very cosy on those cold wet days.
The menu was extensive and I don't think I have seen so many cakes since Ackland Rd, Melbourne, good traditional fare.
The staff were fantastic, so friendly, warm, inviting.
In this day of "branded" cafes, it was a real treat to visit an independent establishment, I'm now looking forward to taking my wife and daughter for lunch there, Shamrock is my new best friend.
