Our short stay (4 nights) here was comfortable and convenient, however the 4 * rating I saw somewhere on the web is a bit of a stretch. It's pretty definitely only a 3 * establshment.
There was a lot of traffic noise in the 3rd floor room we were allocated, but we were moved to ground floor without hesitation, and that was acceptable.

Maintence was noticeably lacking - and included a leaking tap in the hand basin, a drummy tile at the entrance to the bathroom, and a trip hazard - the raised strip between carpet and tiles, would easily break a toe in the dark. The electric blankets didn't work, although they were hardly needed while we were there. Overall, the room showed it age, but was still OK value. The bedroom was roomy and the bathrom was exceptionally large as was the shower recess.

Management tried to please and generally succeeded. It would be great if they just update the rooms before my next stay.

Room Tip: Keep away from the main road. Handy to many restaurants, but you'd need a car - mostly about...

I stayed here for almost two months as I was working in Auckland. I found this place wonderful! Ash (manager) was always helpful (we had a lot of requests during our stay) and always friendly. The rooms are bigger then most motels I stay in for the same price (I pretty much live out of motels with my job). The showers and bathrooms are huge! My room caught the sun during a majority of the day and had a wee balcony. The rooms were very clean and tidy (not sure what some of these other people are writing about in their reviews). No musty smells, no smoke smells, it really was nice to come back to after a long days work. Really close to the beach and town too!

Great accommodation for travellers seeking overnight stay close to city & motorways and north shore. Well appointed rooms, good value, plenty of parking. Could improve tv - reception was rubbish & tv very small. Would have been good to have music(stereo) desperately ...preferably with docking station.

we booked our 2nite stay here because it was walking distance from the bruce mason centre where our daughters were competing in the barber shop nationals. it is in the entertainment book so our price was discounted.our room was clean & of a reasonable size to accommodate the four of us! we enjoyed the incl breaky both mornings! for the price & the close distance to township ect it was by far the better choice we thought!

As others have said here, the room we were originally given was dirty. My husband wrote his name in the dust on the table, there was rubbish in the rubbish bin, and the bed looked like someone had been jumping on it because it was messed up. The air conditioning unit outside the window was rusted right through so we were nervous about using it. We asked for a different room and were given a spa suite. It was cleaner, and a good size. The kitchen light kept going out. There was a tile in the bathroom that was unattached, and sitting to the side. At least one towel had a hole in it and looked quite grey rather than white. The sea view was nice. Bed was comfortable enough, but horrible pillows. I had to pay $10 for 2 hours of wifi but the wifi signal was very weak and only worked if I sat in the doorway.
This place is old, tired and in need of refurbishment.
The final straw was when we were leaving and I was asked if I wanted a receipt. When I said yes, the man tried to print one but the printer wasn't working. No surprises there!! He said he would email it to me immediately, but 2 days later, it still hasn't come.

It looked great on the website but some things let you down. Parking is difficult. To get to rooms you enter through dingy smoky corridors. Carpets need stripping from years ago when people smoked in their units (they possibly still do here). Good location for beach and Takapuna - North Shore. Beds were ok and so was shower. Things that would improve stay - the tired kitchen units need replacing. One door was missing altogether. Rusty sections on wall in bathrooms; great to have airconditioning in this hot summer but the air con units outside that are rusted and ugly need disguising or replacing. No outlook except to a busy road. Tv need upgrading and upsizing. Fine if you need a bed for the night and a shower for a good price (there are worse places and more expensive that this found in my search.

This place was a last minute decision; I tried to book other places but they were fully booked and it was fine for just 1 night. It was a spacious studio with small terrace; cleanliness was just at acceptable level, soft mattress and helpful staff. There was a dusty smell in the studio like it was not used for a long time and I think the rooms are really in need for some proper renovation. Good for a short stay, but not luxury enough in any way for a longer stay, at least not for me. The lodge is located at 10 minutes walking distance of city centre and not far from the beach. Although nothing really wrong with this place I would opt for another one next time.
