“We'll be back!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

We first visited Kokanee Chalets in 2003 and came back this year for a week in one of the chalets. They are rustic and a bit old but that did not take away from our experience. We had a wonderful week. It was very relaxing, quiet and comfortable. Housekeeping was very attentive and the cabin was very clean. I would bring my own pillow and a few more kitchen supplies to make it comfortable. The cooking utensils are very basic and I would like better knives for cooking but often need to bring my own supplies as I like to cook. Crawford Bay is a lovely place to spend some time, with activities at the Artisans in "town". The grocery store has expanded in the past decade, so all supplies are in Crawford Bay. The beach for Kokanee is wonderful and dog friendly [we have a lab]. It is very private and not many people on it at all. There is also a laundry matt which is helpful to have. We are telling all our friends to come and join us next year!

Thank you for posting your review!
We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay. I hear you about the pillow. I personally always travel with my own pillow because I seldom sleep well without it. There are so many types of pillow and you never know what kind will be in the room you are staying in LOL. At Kokanee Chalets we do have a variety of pillows and we can always try to find one that someone likes if they come into the office and let us know.

I will ask the cleaning staff to make a point of sharpening the knife sets in the chalets. Thanks for the feedback!

See you again soon!

This review is for the Kokanee Chalets RV CAMPGROUND ONLY! We did not stay in the chalets, but rather booked a fully serviced RV site at this location.
Not sure where many of these reviewers are comparing the camping and beach to, but there are plenty of better campgrounds and beaches on Kootenay Lake than here. This was the most expensive campsite in our 2 week visit to the area.
The fact that the property borders the east short of Kootenay Lake does not, in my opinion, make this a waterfront or even lakeside camping. I agree with the reviewer who stated that the beach is a "dump". Also, having to walk through the cedar forest to get to the "private beach" is quite the adventure...especially since you are likely to be eaten alive by the mosquitos while trying to get there! Their website does admit that they are "nestled in a cedar forest" and have "lush vegetation" - both of which statements are true. It doesn't elaborate to say that especially the larger tenting/unserviced sites are located backing onto this thick, lush vegetation (thickets, ferns, etc) - all situated on a swampy, valley bottom type setting...the perfect breeding grounds for mosquitos! After walking around, we were extremely glad not to be tenting here!
In addition, since returning home, I have read with interest the reviews and replies by the staff about the power issues and the "electrical re-wiring" in the serviced sites. Last week, while we were there - some sites in certain rows woke up without power one morning.
The serviced sites are extremely small and close together - we had to go inside our RV so we did not to have to listen to the entire hour long telephone conversation that our neighbour across the driveway was having outside his RV early one morning! They state that they offer large RV sites....this actually means that large RV's can be accommodated rather than the sites themselves being large in size once you are parked.
If you are needing a campsite just to sleep overnight at while exploring the cute artisan shops in Crawford Bay, then this place would do the trick. The showers are hot, clean and free as advertised. But, if you are looking for a relaxing beach vacation on Kootenay Lake - you will be sorely disappointed here - just as my family was.
The chalets look cute and clean from the outside and again would probably serve as an ideal location if just stopping over to explore the area.
I always rely on the reviews of tripadvisor when booking any trip, and this time I was disappointed that I hadn't taken the negative reviews more seriously before I booked my stay. Generally when the positive reviews out number the negative ones - I disregard the negative as being overly picky travellers, however in this instance the negative reviews should be seriously considered!

Room Tip: The Chalets looked cute!

We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay. Kokanee Chalets Resort is not a beachfront campground, nor do we claim to be. We do have a beach on the lake, which is located about five minutes from the campground through the woods. Some people really like it. It's private and rustic.

In response to the electrical problem that day - the kinks are being worked out.

As for the mosquitos- we are doing our very best to control their population.

My friend and I did not want to camp for the music festival as we wanted some comfort and to be away from the festivities later at night. Booked a "room" back in March at the Kokanee Chalets. Figured on a standard hotel room, but got a lovely unit in a duplex kind of setting on the back side of the property that was very clean, very modern rustic, with comfortable beds, lovely furnishing, small deck outside. We were. 1 minute walk from the festival (able to sleep no problem with the later shows) 5 minute walk from the beach and the staff were accommodating and pleasant throughout a very hectic time for them. We are on a wait list for a chalet for next year already. Pricing is very reasonable

Room Tip: Don't think there is a bad room, but I liked ours as we faced away from the highway

W kind of got diverted from our original destination in B.C. due to the Trans Canada being washed out due to the floods, but are we ever glad we chose to go to Kokanee Chalets and RV Park. A wonderful setting in amongst some beautiful cedars, close to Kootenay Lake,Kokanee Springs Golf Course and the quaint little town of Crawford Bay.Met some really friendly people including the gracious staff.Lots of amenities, including a great hot tub, laundry facilities and firewood. We loved this place...cant wait to go back in September!

Hi Stu! Hi Sharon!
We are so glad that you enjoyed your brief visit with us at Kokanee Chalets. We know that you'll have a blast in September too! Septempber is usually quite hot here. Mid 20's - 30's and sunshine, while in cools off in the evening. The leaves start changing color and the morning mist often rolls off the lake. It's truly beautiful. See you then!

We stayed here almost by accident! Everything was amazing, chalets were clean and stocked, grounds are beautiful and the owner is super friendly! Had a huge campfire last night which was great!

Wish we stayed longer, we'll be back!

We camped here for 4 nights on a long weekend. The cedar forest is lovely and the camp sites are well spaced with lots of vegetation. We noticed that many campgrounds on both sides of the lake were crowded with tents, trailers and RVs so close together, that we were glad we stayed here!
We thought the cost was very reasonable for a private campground ($24 for a site with power) There are about 30 spacious campsites in the back area and the RVs that stay all season were up at the front. The washrooms were very clean and well maintained. (A tip is that there are 4 nice showers and the front washroom. Some people did not realize this and waited in line for the 1 shower in the back washroom!)
With so many campgrounds booked up during peak time, it was great that they had room for us and for the late-in-the-day arrivals too. They are not listed in the BC camping guide.
You will thank yourself A LOT for taking a mosquito shelter with you. We have never used ours before, but it was a huge factor in making our stay pleasant. Mornings were relatively bug free but bring spray and shelter for later in the day. With the free ferry so close, you can head to the other side of the lake for day trips and then get back again in time to build a campfire to ward off the bugs!

We are glad you enjoyed our place. Sorry about the bugs! As our resort is very forested with lush temperate rainforest vegetation it can sometimes be a challenge. We are now carrying some different bug sprays in the office for customers. Sorry it took us a while to respond to your review - we have just become more technologically advanced.

I've been going to the Kokanee Chalets for about ten years now. I go there for the quiet and beauty of nature. The chalets/cabin rooms are clean, neat and tidy. They aren't brand new, but have been upgraded where possible. The staff are lovely and accommodating, however, they don't tolerate noisy guests much to my relief. When you either share a wall or your neighbours are four feet away and everyone's windows are open, it can get a bit much if the rowdies are staying up to 3 in the morning. Yes, there are bugs - flying and otherwise, but it's the mountains, that's to be expected.

Room Tip: the chalets sleep up to 8 people (two in each room up top, two in the main room and two on the futon...
