i first came to bella coola by pure chance around 1972.it was then mostly a dirt road, but upon arivel ,it was like a time machine.the wooden shacks the harbor, but mostly the locals.then most where of norwegian desent ,and they told me the story of the only road connecting them with the rest of b c and canada.the provincial burocrats had told them that a road was imposibel to build but two stubbern men and an old caterpilar dozer did the job.those men where the baker and the blacksmith. bella coola is very well worth a visit, because of this road that could not be built. my last visit was too short, but the fronteersmanspirit lives on.enjoy

“Wildlife”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2012

In my opinion you don't even need a bear tour or similar in Bella Coola, because the tracés are all over the places! Bearbeds, seals floathing on the water, a cedar of 9OO years old in the magnificent forest,... Nature at its best! So take the time to walk and fish there, even if that's not your normal thing to do (like me) on a holiday.

Excellent hikes to cater for all levels of fitness, which will all deliver views to take your breath away.
Perfect location for wildlife viewers who want to get away from madding crowd - there are no pubs or nightclubs here!
Seeing the mass of salmon on their journey to spawning grounds & the opportunistic bears was brilliant, even though we weren't at the height of the bear viewing season.
Remember to have bug spray with you at all times!
A trip to the hot springs is also highly recommended.

Nature and wildlife are abundant. It is also the start of a scenery ferry trip to Port Hardy. The life in the valley is very rural but you get a good view on the Nuxalk first nations people.

“A fantastic place to be”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 October 2012

The Bella Coola Valley is an amazing and fantastic place to be for vacation. Untouched nature / wilderness, spectacular views and much more. Also the beautiful drive over the 453 km long B.C. Highway 20 - also called "Freedom Highway" or "Chilcotin Highway" - is it absolutely worth to travel to the Bella Coola Valley!
