We were driving in Thailand and rang ahead to Maggie for a room for 5 people. She said she did not have room but if we went to her she would help us find somewhere :) When we arrived she was not there but there was a sign letting us know we could just choose a room with a key in the door and check in later (she had rooms!!) admittedly some rooms looked like prison cells and we were a little nervous at first but once we met the other guests and maggie's daughter our minds were put at rest. All the guests are friendly as they are all travellers looking for off the beaten track 'old thailand' which you'll certainly find in Prachuap! Maggie was very helpful letting us know about all the free things to do in Prachuap including the 'Monkey Mountain' and the Military beach! The garden is quaintly decorated. The other guests did seem a bit hippy-ish but were indeed friendly, rooms very basic but good value.

Well located near all the markets and the beach is just a stones throw away.

The single rooms for 180 Baht are functional, not well lit but have a fan. You can upgrade to a room for 200 Baht which has a window and is much bigger.

Common kitchen are is well stocked with pots and pans and there is hot water for tea and coffee.
Fridges are available for the guests food.

If no-one is around when you arrive, check the board by the door to see which room is empty.
Toilets and showers are clean.

Ao Manao beach (through the airforce base) is a lovely cycle ride and the beach is clean. If you try to walk this you will be stopped and asked if you want a lift by the passing locals. Beach chairs were 10 Baht per day at the time of writing.

Lots of food to try at the local night market. There is also a large Tesco Lotus on the edge of town (about a 1 hour walk).

If you walk to the temple on the hill you will need a stick because of the monkeys. The locals feed them so they do come up to you if you have any sort of bag.

The homestay consists of a main building with a big living room, nice rooms upstairs (400-500 Baht, shared bathroom) and a kitchen on the back of the house that may be used by anyone. Furthermore there are cheap rooms attached in a prison like "cell" style at (150-200 Baht with shared bathroom). The nice big garden has a very nice atmosphere. Not far from the sea and the nightmarket. We made a reservation for the 400 Baht room. Was not available on arrival, moved to 500 Baht room next door.
This could be a hell of a homestay if Maggie would take more care about it.The kitchen items are worn out and the whole area does not get cleaned properly. Lots of leftover food that stays for days without beeing removed. Hoses in the upstairs bathroom were rusty, toilet seat falling apart. NOT CLEANED DAILY. With 3 rooms to share that bathroom simply not acceptable. Same for showers and garden area. Matrasse was ugly with loads of stains and smelly. Could not use pillow as too dirty. Window screens with holes and many mosquito in the room without mosquito net. The garden area is full of red big ants and mosquitos that also bite during the day. Cigarette buds all over the place. The little garden huts with leaf roof falling apart. Loads of things to restore, clean and maintain but Maggie and her daughter just simply hang around or check the latest on their flash gadgets.
Motorbikes and bicycles for rent but of very bad quality.I considered some of them even beeing dangerously faulty. Rented one not far away that costed less and was in perfect shape.
All in all a nice place to meet other travellers.

We stayed at Maggie's one night. We had intended to stay longer but in the morning discovered that the neighbours had started rennovations which made it quite noisy, so we decided to move. Maggie was amazing about it - she gave us recommendations for Ao Manao hotel at the air base and helped us to call them and find out prices, and even took us there herself.
Maggie's place is really nice, with a true home atmosphere, close to the market and the beach. Joan, the manager, was really nice and an interesting woman to talk to, and she helped us with a variety of things - advice, washing, buying tickets for the Green Bus etc.
We would definitely have stayed there longer minus the construction noise.

Note that if you are sensitive to mosquitos, the rooms have mesh netting but the public areas (kitchen, lounge) do not, and they are open all the time.

Room Tip: The upstairs room seemed much nicer than those in the back yard, which were dark and felt closed-in...

We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms for 400bht. It had the bathroom right next to it. The room is quite large and nicely decorated, and has good pedistal fan, which kept the room cool enough for us. The bed is very comfortable. Has hot shower but not much water pressure. The room has wooden polished floor boards and 3 windows on each wall to let the air circulate through (it is a corner room). There are cupboards to store your clothes. There street is well sign posted at both ends and the owner is very friendly and has excellent English. This place is 10 x better than Yuttica Hotel. It is close to shops and night market and the beach. There are bikes for higher at 50bht per day. Carefully check over the bikes because out of a group of 10 bikes we only found 2 that could be ridden safely. A lot of them had flat tyres, no brakes, and pedals missing, There is another place in town that also hires bicycles. This place is also in walking distance from the a/c mini vans.

Room Tip: The room on the 2nd floor next to the bathroom is pretty good. It is a large corner room and has lo...

Maggie's place is just relaxed! Own kitchen where people are making their meals and other people join, nice inside area, also to relax but the best part is that on arival you can check yourself in, when Maggie is not around. There is a big whiteboard at the entrance where all the rooms are written down. The ones that are taken have a name or a sign, the other ones you can check out and the best room for you is yours. Prices are also written down next to each room.
Maggie speaks English very well, she is certainly not the standard Thai woman, but you will find thatout when you are there.
The room we had wasn't big and had a fan. Thatwas enough, although the heat was sometimes difficult to get rid off. The bed was not good, like a matras made out of stone. But that was the only downsite to two days over there

Room Tip: Go and check all available rooms. Think about the outdoor-rooms as being next to the kitchen, some...
