“More then B&B”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

Stayed there twice this month on our way to the south for two nights and when we returned for one night.
Located near Bang Sapan next to a Charming beach.
There is a two story building, with some rooms at ground level and some on the second floor, we stayed (both times) in Superior rooms, they were clean with en suite shower and toilet, bring your own soap and shampoo since the soap supplied is for hand washing ,nice towels, TV with satellite dish many channels most of them Asian countries but some English, German, Russian and french as well, but most important 3 cartoon channels "yeeee", queen size bed, AC and ceiling fan, desk and chair, fast WIFI (second visit had some problem) and Refrigerator, at the saloon (which is joined for 3 rooms) had tv and many DVDs to watch.
Outside second floor and downstairs there are shaded balconies where you can smoke or eat your meals, yes the B&B has a large menu of items which you can order until very late prices are reasonable, the included breakfast is basic (eggs and toast) but you can upgrade it for only 100 Baht.
5 min walk the inner path you will find yourself in front of a beautiful beach (beach towels also provided) see picture attached, there is a cabin on high stilts in front of the beach which the staff gave us the key for putting our staff, basic toilet and shower hose to wash the sand, an Inviting sitting area (which the following day we had BBQ and set there) soft sand shallow water beach (but beware of some pointed mother of pearl shells scattered in water).
Like any other place in Thailand there are straw dogs around but didn't made us any problem and even became our friends on BBQ day (wonder why?).
Staff are fabulous and can give you a ride (for charge) to from train/bus station or to rent you their scooter.
We arrived by car and used Google maps to arrive pinpoint the B&B, at night the area is dark like in a cave and only little light from the house is seen from main road so drive slow to see the B&B sign.
We really enjoyed our stay even more then some high price hotels we have been to.

Room Tip: I know that standard rooms with no fridge, so ask for superior room, the price is not much higher

This is undeveloped non-tourist Thailand. We took the 3rd class train from Hua Hin which was very, very cheap (something like 35 baht) and a great experience passing through scenic countryside. On arrival at Bang Saphan Noi train station we were surprised - there were no taxis or tourists at all. We called the owner of Sananwan Beach B&B who contacted one of his friends (a semi-resident at the B&B) to come and pick us up. It took a while, as we had not booked in advance, and the friend was busy elsewhere, but we eventually got there.

The Beach B&B is a large house about 100m from the beach, and there is very little else around. The area is almost completely undeveloped, which means no restaurants, no bars, no supermarkets. For some people it will be heaven. The beach is about 5km long, and is completely undeveloped. Most days I would be the only person there; it really is amazing to have your own beach to yourself. On the downside, because there is nobody going there, nobody ever cleans the beach, so there is quite a bit of litter and debris washed ashore. But the raw isolation made up for this, and I really enjoyed it.

There are no restaurants around, but the B&B has an onsite restaurant which serves the same meals as those found at the Sananwan hotel near Bangkok. The cooking was good and the meals were varied (you can even get Whitley Bay fish & chips). You are free to bring your own drinks to the restaurant, and if you buy food they will cook it for a small fee. There is a small shop just along the road (turn right onto the main road, walk a few hundred metres, it's on the left) where you can buy a few snacks, soft drinks, Thai whisky etc.

One of the best things about staying here is that the local people are really, really friendly - the complete opposite of the jaded view of tourists that can be found in some parts of Thailand. There is a great weekly market nearby within walking distance (4km) where you can experience local food and drinks, or vegetables, fish and other meats which the B&B staff will cook for your meal. We were walking back from the market, and a man came running out of his house to offer us two coconuts that he had just picked from his tree. Another man randomly gave us a free pineapple. Several people stopped on their mopeds and offered us a lift. Another time a man saw us trying to pick a coconut, laughed, and then climbed up the tree to get it for us. Amazing friendly people.

The lack of local restaurants and layout of the B&B means that most guests eat at the B&B, sometimes at the same tables. This is great if you meet interesting people that you get on with, but can be a bit annoying when a large group arrives and takes over.

The staff speak very little English. I had a bad first impression of one when she blew up accusing me of refusing to pay for the room (I had already paid) but it seemed ok after she calmed down and I tried to explain again. The overall setup is a bit weird - the owner is based in Bangkok, and to arrange anything more complicated than ordering food you have to talk to her on the phone, and then pass the phone to the staff, so she can explain what you want. The other staff spoke no English but were friendly and helpful.

The B&B have a moped to rent, which is worth doing to visit the small village of Bang Burd and the beaches and sand dunes ("Thailand's largest sanddune") further to the south, or to visit the local town for shopping or an ATM. There is also a bicycle and a canoe which are free to use, and a friendly Russian semi-resident (he owns the land the hotel is built on) even offered to lend me his car!

We stayed here initially for a few days, and ended up extending our stay for 2 weeks. If you're the kind of person who enjoys nature, and wants to get away from the tourist crowds, give it a try. The building is for sale so I don't know how much longer the B&B will be open. If you stay longer, ask about their weekly and monthly rates (if I remember correctly prices start at 5000 baht per month in low season, which is very good value).

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs have nice sea view but are more expensive

Travelling from Ranong, we were dropped on the motorway in Bangsaphan Noi and it was impossible to get any transportation to the b&b, there simply seems to be no taxis. The only way was to call the b&b and arrange a pick up in an hour. This place was a real back-water Thailand. The room we got was on the ground floor next to a make-shift reception desk and the restaurant kind of area. So, if you want a room with more privacy, you need to ask for the 1st floor (more expensive and I think with A/C). The room itself was large with a separate little outside area and a bathroom.
The lady who runs the place speaks very little english, so most communications were with sign language, and she and her husband do everything in this place including cooking. This was quite impressive as menu was rather large and she cooked it quite quick and well. We also learned from people who stayed there longer as to where fridge was to help yourself with a beer. then you just leave it at your table and it will be added to your bill.
you need to walk 150m or so through the property's land to get to the beach. The beach is very long and quite picturesque with sunset through palms, but not that well kept and there are no much facilities apart from a shower. About 1h 20mins walk on a beach is a pier from where you can get a tour to a Koh Talu island opposite (apparently very pretty and great for snorkeling).
Apart from that there is nothing to do, no restaurants nearby or anything else in the vicinity. There is 1 scooter you can rent and explore the area, would recommend it - pretty fishing villages, huge buddha complex and large sand dune, also a nearby resort you can have a dinner at. otherwise you need your own transport.
Some people had a shock on the arrival with nothing to do or go once you there, but after a day or two (if you decide to stay longer), you can relax into easy life with not much to do.
We only spent a couple of nights there and then took an overnight train to Bangkok, so was an interesting and relaxing stop over.

Room Tip: upstairs rooms has terrace /balcon and more private, but with A/C and noticeably more expensive.

The most impressive thing from this place was food. The female chef, Kai was very nice and well cooking. The beach was very quiet and peaceful. But the resort is not on beach front. We walked a little with a guarding dog from this place.

The villa is a couple of hundred feet from a beach. I've only seen local people on the beach. They were searching for crabs and other sea food.

At the villa itself there are many nooks in which to ensconce yourself and read a book.

The woman who runs the establishment does almost everything. She is a good host. The food is pretty good.

The way that the villa is set up you will bump into fellow travelers. Which is a nice way to meet people.

Perfect place to avoid the tourist crowds and enjoy 'Real Thailand' in this lovely slow-paced beach town. Sananwan B&B is just south of Bang Saphan Noi on route 1015. Near to Koh Talu for boat tours & snorkeling. We stayed on the ground floor. Room was clean with standard 2 star comfort. There is a little private garden at the back with a hammock and a cute bathroom – one wall open to the private garden. My friend stayed on the top floor, 3 star room with fridge and great view of the palm trees leading to the beach. Staff friendly, owned by a Thai-English couple. The map on the website is not too helpful. Stay southbound on route 1015 until you see the big blue sign on Left.

Room Tip: top floor has a nice little deck and access to the common room.

I have been in Thailand almost 7 years, I was traveling around Thailad. Sananwan Beach is the best for my vocation. If you want to run away from the big city I would recommend. the food was great, room very clean and comfortable. The market not far. Also free kayaking. They arranged the snorkeling trip for me too it was amazing. Next trip to the South I wold stay at Sanawna Beach again.

Room Tip: Superier Aircon it is the best!
