My husband and I had stayed at Alta before, years ago. We were excited to go back for a some quiet alone time away from the kids. We got in late so we just went to bed. When we awoke we had a chance to look at our pillows. One was covered in what seemed to be blood. We found the accommodations quaint, but not very clean. After check out, we found we were charged for a deep cleaning of the room. The staff told us we had "thrown up" all over the room, and had extra people in our room. My husband and I had spent the evening watching movies and getting some much needed rest! Our attempts at resolving this issue have met with little to no response from the staff or management. We will not be going back!!

In summer this provides a lovely spot to get away from it all and explore the National Park. The rooms are in wooden chalets and it is all self catering. There is good pool and hot tub and space to play games. There are hiking trails straight from the hotel. The rooms are comfortable and clean. There is a small shop on site which supplies a selection of foods and drinks.

We stayed in a one bedroom chalet, the "cheap" room at $218.00 per night.
If the room had cost $100-$150.00, I would have been less critical, but for over $200.00 I expected more.
Pros:
The room was clean ( carpets, linens, etc...)
Location was good for hiking in Mt. Rainier NP
Staff was friendly
Kitchen was well stocked
Cons:
Property had a motel feel, with 2 story buildings surrounding a pool where noisy kids ran back and forth in front of the window, and people talked loudly until hot tub closed at 10pm
Bed was extremely hard, felt more like an old futon
Metal stairs to second story directly outside bedroom window, so lots of clomping up and down
One of the 3 "friendly" resident dogs rushed us and growled as we walked down the road
For the price of a room, they could loan out the movies for free (we've stayed in places half the price that do)!
All in all, an OK place, not terrible. We've spent up to $450.00 for a room before other places so I'm not averse to splurging, but for over $200 per night for the cheapest rooms here, they are just so-so.
Best for families, not a romantic getaway.

Alta Crystal resort is a small complex of lovely ski condos just outside the entrance to Mount Ranier National Park. The owners provide hospitality and activities for families that are second to none. Besides providing info about Mount Ranier and the huge national foroest area that surrounds them, they have mapped the local trails that start right out the back door. They have cookouts, smores, kareoke, and other activities in the beautiful open area out back. They have a pool and hot tub for relaxing after a long hike. There is access to bikes and horses nearby as well. The resort is located on the quieter side of Mount Ranier NP, and we did some beautiful hikes from the Sunrise visitor center and campground as well as Okanepekosh. The condos are very comfortable, clean, and well supplied with anything you might need to do a few light meals. There are BBQs outside each building. They have a little "store" where you can pick up a few groceries and a large library of DVDs.

What a wonderful lodge for our stay at Mt. Rainer NP! Ditto's with all of the other TripAdvisor "posters" to have commented on the beauty and the wonderful condition of this property. My only addition would be to note how very friendly and helpful Loris and her colleagues were during our stay. Lot's of smiles, and good suggestions.
OBTW - the "little" store was a terrific; it saved a number of trips down the mountain to Enumclaw.

My family stayed at the Alta Crystal Resort which is very close to the Sunrise entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. We had a Chalet Loft Suite which accomodated my family of 5 very comfortably. The room, grounds, swimming pool and hot tub were all you could have asked for. Everything was clean and nice.

What really made this resort special were the extras like an extensive book of hikes in the area which was in our room. Hikes with views of Mount Rainier that many people don't know about., hikes with the best wildflowers, the best picnic spots, etc., trail suggestions and fun things going on every night like wilderness bingo with prizes, a barbeque, and a bonfire with somemores.

If you want to be surrounded by National Forest and close to the Sunrise entrance this is definitely a good choice to see Mount Rainier. I would stay at the Alta Crystal Resort again in a heartbeat!
