The Crown is exactly what you hope to find when searching for that typical old English coaching inn, but it has the added value of style, comfort and excellent food. Very friendly with cosy atmosphere in front of log fires and good wine. Perfect except for one thing. Its old and creaks so you will hear everyone walking about either late at night or early morning. Plus the noise of traffic at the front will keep you awake unless you have plenty of their good wine. Choose a room at the back.
Otherwise the perfect choice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back.

I had driven past the Crown Inn en route to other places and stopped a few times for a drink there. I took advantage of a November special (which I found on trip advisor) for dinner, bed and breakfast for a Friday night in November.

Chiddingfold is a beautiful little village, quintessentially English and the Crown Inn matches this. It is utterly charming.

There is nothing I could complain about with my stay. The room was fine, immaculately clean, well appointed, bed amazingly comfortable and a good bathroom. It makes such a pleasant change to stay in a place so full of character than a generic and bland hotel room.

The bar is a very relaxing place to sit, comfortable chairs and an open fire and the dinner and wine were excellent. The breakfast the following morning was outstanding, the quality of the ingredients was apparent with every mouthful. An epicurean delight!

What also sets this place apart is the service levels.

I have rarely felt so well looked after and the team delivered an exceptionally high quality of service in a friendly manner. It was a very memorable, pleasant and relaxing night and all in all, truly superb value!

Five of us including a 1-year old had lunch at the Crown Inn. Service was as close to perfect as possible, and the wait staff was very friendly. The inn is warm and friendly, and the food is very, very good. It accommodated gluten free beyond expectations with really excellent gluten free toast and butter coming from the kitchen to accompany our meal. The inn also happily accommodated two vegetarians.

Everybody was totally pleased with the experience including our 1-year old granddaughter. Not only were there two other toddlers for parallel play, but there is a nice play room with friendly toys in the back of one of the dining rooms.

The menu is interesting and varied. My only problem was figuring out which of the entrees to select.

I recommend stopping at the Crown Inn if you are anywhere close in Surrey.

Stopped off here for lunch. It is a lovely character inn that is very inviting and comfortable. The fish and chips and chicken kiev were very good indeed, followed by the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream which was really delicious and light.. Good value for money and very courteous and eficient staff. Good beer, and wines served in lovely wine glasses. Will definitely be returning soon.

Enjoyed a tasty Sunday roast beef dinner today. First time visiting and both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 course roast. Having driven past the Crown a few times and read the reviews we were not sure quite what to expect but were really pleasantly surprised. Not fine dining however the food content was very tasty, not salty and we could identify what the vegetables were! The beef was cooked just right and not fatty or dried up. The service and wait time between courses was just right despite the restaurant being full. Would we return...yes we would!

Room Tip: Do book ahead as the waitress said they often have to turn people away esp for Sunday lunch.

Had a very lovely , unrushed , impromptu evening with friends! As a walk in they were very helpful . Service was excellent and food was plentiful if a little expensive overall. Excellent jazz band and good beer /wine ! We will go again .

We booked my parent's surprise 40th Anniversary Party at the Crown for a Sunday. I grew up in Godalming and know the pub but haven't been here since it was refurbished.

Initially, however, I was a little disappointed as I found out last minute our party was on two separate tables. But, they had a cancellation and we were fortunate enough to get the huge table in the back. It was wonderful and made our day.

Marcus (the General Manager) and the rest of the team at the Crown, looked after us the entire day, from coordinating out little surprise gathering in the courtyard (which involved setting up banners and the table with champagne etc.) to helping us with all the flowers and cakes etc.

The food was very good. Some of the starters were better than others and seemed a better quality than others, but the mains and deserts were all consistently very good. We also had some very strict dietary requirements on the table which Marcus took great care over and the chef/s did a brilliant job.

As our lunch went on a little, they needed to move us in to the bar for our tea and coffee which worked out very well as it gave us a change of scenery. We also ate our anniversary cake which I'd made (this icing had got all squished in the car) and when it came out (we'd asked them to put it in the fridge) the chef has redone the icing for me to make it look like a professional cake (it definitely didn't look that good when I had done it that morning!).

Overall, we had the best experience there with impeccable service and were very well catered for to our unique requirements. Several members of our group have already said "I've only ever been here for a drink before, but I'm definitely going to host my next party here".

Thank you for making my parent's 40th Anniversary an even more memorable occasion.
