Description: The Crown Inn Chiddingfold, Condé Nast Johansens Most Excellent Inn in Great Britain 2010 and awarded Recommended Status for 2011. An idyllic English pub, The Crown Inn nestles in a quiet corner of the picture-perfect village green of Chiddingfold in Surrey. Totally refurbished, the olde world charm of the property has been lovingly maintained and sympathetically blended with a more sophisticated and contemporary decor. Beautiful stained-glass windows provide a stunning backdrop to our dining rooms, whilst our downstairs bar has an informal ambience. Our AA coveted 5 Stars has been awarded again in 2013 with the added bonus of a yellow star award, to sit alongside our 'Highly Commended status' for 2013. We are proud to be in the top 10% of only 11 Inns in England.

First visit to this supposed 5 star inn. The food is anything but. Ordered a beef sandwich that was mostly fat and one measly slice, bulked out by the usual rocket. Even worse the olives ordered were saturated in oil rather than marinated, so totally inedible. Please have a word with the chef as they seem to think this was acceptable. Won't be coming back.

When the best part of the meal is the coffees you know something is wrong. Devil Kidneys on toast consists of undercooked whole kidneys slathered in sauce on what looked like a piece of Molenberg toast which just is a soggy mess by the time it arrived. The ham hock & leek terrine came with wilted undressed salad leaves and the ribeye steak was cold. Overall just disappointing as once used to be a great English pub with great food, now just a great looking pub with poor food.

Had a lunch in the lovely atmospheric oak panelled restaurant. Food was very tasty and the service was good. Great fish and chips and my husband had the pie of the day. We then relaxed and digested reading the Saturday papers.

Visited this beautiful inn for the first time for a Saturday lunch. What a great choice ! I had a beautiful fruity Sauvignon served nice and chilled in a lovely big glass and got asked to try beforehand which is always nice. We then chose a table by the window so we could look out to the green and the church. We were given good service which was attentive but not overbearing. I chose the mushrooms and poached egg and my friend had the ham hock to start. Both were exquisite. Great flavours and nicely presented with perfect portion size. The ham hock with the homemade piccalilli was just Devine and my meaty mushrooms along with the runny egg and chive oil was simply delicious. We then both chose the lamb rump for main. Again, beautiful flavours with simple ingredients. Really made my Saturday with perfect company and extra special one. Would love to return soon and will recommend to anyone. A truly wonderful experience in beautiful surroundings
