Passed many times on our way back from the coast and decided to stop. We were not dissapointed. A well appointed and decorated pub with a warm ambience. I was impressed to see what was obviously the owners or managers at front of house keeping an eye on and getting involved in proceedings. The meals were well presented and everyone of our 5 main courses had there plates cleared. You cant get better than that. Service was very good. Good range of beers.

Yes another year passed and we find ourselves returning to the fabulous Swan Inn which is owned and run by a fabulous couple Anne Marie and her partner Stuart. Upon check in we receive a warm welcome, to be followed by a delicious meal, even despite a black out during dinner, all was delightfully composed. We had great fun, great food and wines. This is a truly well run establishment - I can't recommend it enough!

Hey, I am not going to bore you by repeating the usual '4 star/gem of a place/must stay again' mantra. If you want that kinda thing just trawl through the other reviews.

So, bits that are egregious are the food, wine list, the maitre' dee, or should I day maitresse d', who's on the ball and highly professional. We did a sunday stay over-with breakfast and a monday departure. Staff, on a sunday, are ok though being told at 9.35 pm that the bar had closed at 9.30pm whilst we were still "a' table" was a bit odd. Luckily, we popped round the corner to "the other pub in town" to swig a post-prandial calvados or several. Clearly, The Swan didn't need the business.....

So, food very good, service .....mmm....yeh...fine and drink (when available) all good, too. And so to bed......

Well, the bed and linens are up there with the best: classy and comfy. However, though our bathroom was well designed their execution by 'yer local plumber' has clearly not stood the test of time. You can spend as much money as you like on fittings but if you don't build with quality and robustness in mind bathrooms don't stand the weekly grind of guests. And here, at least in our room, it showed in various places.

One key issue is noise....and a good deal of it. The Swan is on a very busy road, so pretty much every day, day or night, you've got passing traffic. If you're going to stay in summer and don't want to put the aircon on and have the window open then bring ear plugs and drink heartily......

Now having stayed, I'd stay 5 star for meals, conviviality and the lovely tiered garden in summertime but I'd only stay if you wanted to drink and NOT drive.....

That's not a reflection on management but more on its location. Great accessibility from London but this is definitely not a country idyll where you can hear the hoot of an occasional owl for the din of weekend traffic. You pay, obviously, for that accessibility to London......

I can not praise the Swan Inn enough. It is in a lovely location and is very comfortable. You are made to feel welcome instantly and everyone is extremely helpful. We were there for Chiddingfold’s Bonfire night and despite the Swan Inn being very busy, we were given 100% attention all the time we were there. The food (evening meals and breakfasts) were of top quality and extremely well presented. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and well laid out. Thank you Swan Inn for a very enjoyable time.

Stayed here on a Saturday night to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary . We were with another couple and arrived at just after 3 so we had missed the lunch time food slot but staff were kind enough to make us food. Had the American club sandwich whilst sitting in a lovely garden , surrounded by fresh herbs and some lovely shrubs , luckily the sun was shining too. Staff were very friendly and accomadating. Room was very nice and clean , nice bathroom , comfy bed so no complaints there. Had a table booked for 8.30 in the restaurant and have to say I had some of the nicest food I've ever tasted. Highly recommend the ham hock with poached egg starter. Prices may be a bit high but you get what you pay for.. If you want cheap.go to a harvester . Overall had a fantastic stay and will definitely be going back .

Room Tip: Room 1 was nice and quiet

We stayed in The Swan back in April this year.

Ok the review is a little late but on the whole we were impressed with the restaurant as the food is really very good but unfortunately we cannot recommend The Swan as a good place to stay.

The welcome we received on arrival was adequate and the service is good although not very friendly (maybe an off day? The reviews suggest otherwise). Dinner at The Swan was the highlight of our stay and the restaurant was very busy, always a good sign that it is good and the service again was efficient and very good, the meal was excellent. Breakfast was also good.

The problem was the sound proofing, not from the pub downstairs but the other rooms including the pipe work both in our bathroom and the neighbouring rooms. It is not pleasant waking up to hear people in the top rooms using the bathroom. It was loud. We were staying in a room situated on the middle floor to the right along the corridor (once passing the staircase). So perhaps if you do stay here, make sure you book a room on the top floor if available.
