I spent the weekend at Gwinganna for a heart and health stay. The seminars by Sydney neurologist and cardiology specialists were fantastic. Very informative and more about prevention of these diseases and good life style choices. The whole Gwinganna experience is about being good to yourself and thinking about what you do to your body. The emphasis on eating well and exercise is the main aim of your stay. Start your day with Qi Gong (similar to Tai Chi). This is done with a gorgeous view at 615am in winter and much earlier in the summer to see the sun rise. After Qi Gong there are organised walks on the grounds of Gwinganna. A delicious breakfast awaits you after your morning walk. There are more exercise choices available after breakfast, Yin and Yang depending on your own energy levels. Plenty of options available as well as use of the gym, spa and heated pools. Everything is optional so if you choose not to do anything then that's okay.
All meals are communal and only dinner is on a seating plan which you can also select if you have made friends. This place is perfect to go with or without friends. I went alone and really enjoyed meeting people from all over Australia and New Zealand.
All meals are delicious if you like healthy food. Plenty of homegrown fruit and vegetables which are used in daily dishes. The tahini balls and date slices are to die for. Chicken quinoa sang choi bow delicious.
The spa treatment options are endless. Massages are all great, my hydrating facial was very relaxing and my skin felt great afterwards. They have the most detailed spa menu I have ever seen. The steam room is gorgeous and your skin feels great after a session.
Accommodation is all very nice. I stayed in a villa with a plunge pool which was heated at 30 degrees and had the most amazing view.
This is a well run resort.
Kay was our weekend manager and she was very informative and involved at all times.
I thoroughly enjoyed eating pure food and inhaling that gorgeous fresh air.
This is a great place if you need to get back on track with your diet or make a lifestyle change. It's also good if you feel the need to reconnect as it can be spiritual if that's what you are after.
I can't wait to go back in the summer and spend the afternoon relaxing on the pool deck after a treatment.
I wish I had longer than a weekend to stay at Gwinganna but it was enough to feel some benefit of all the good food, treatments and relaxation.
Thanks you Gwinganna, I will be back!

Words cannot express how rejuvenated and inspired I feel on my return. The staff really make this place, they are nurturing, kind, motivating and really walk the talk. I highly recommend ANY activity with Megan (I did the yoga walk) and Andy (I did the silence walk, meditations and zero balance session). I also loved the Nia and tribal dance. The food was delicious and I never felt hungry or like I was detoxing. On my return I have started the ten week Gwinganna at Home program which is terrific and helping me maintain the Gwinganna glow. What a place!! What incredible people - all of them.

I came to Gwinny for the 5 day optimal wellbeing retreat- as my 40th birthday gift from my most wonderful husband.
I have been on my own journey to wellness for a few years since beginning to study nutritional medicine.
I arrived completely exhausted after a long full time semester juggling 3 kids, husband and household... And promptly fell in an emotional heap.
I did the "personal transformation" therapy while i was there, and it was the most amazing life-changing session, as was the whole Gwinganna experience.
The activities- both yin and yang were fantastic and really varied- the Nia dance, fitball drumming, and tribal dance, silence walk, were all highlights, yoga, meditation and bushwalking also fab.
Every program leader and presenter we met was warm and engaging, sharing their own personal story of wellness, Donna was our program manager for the week, and i thought she was amazing. As was Shelly the gardener. Both such inspiring women.

The food was absolutely delicious, creative and plentiful. I never felt hungry. I felt like i ate as much or more than i do at home. That said i also lost 4kgs in the week- more likely to do with the stress release and increased exercise.
I stayed in a heritage room, which was quaint, and very comfortable, but the floorboards were intrtconnected with other rooms and was concious of movement and noise in nearby rooms, and the shower over bath wasn't great- i mostly showered at the spa in the afternoons anyway! And really i was only in my room to sleep and dress. That said- next time I will go the little extra for an orchard suite.
I loved meeting and sharing with the rest of the group, and enjoyed the communal aspect, and I met and really connected with a number of great people. Many of whom were really incredible kind and supportive when I had my "emotional day". I would definitely recommend going on your own- get more out of it- I think going as a couple would be a little isolating.
All the treatments I had in the spa were sensational. And the steam room is divine.

I will definitely be saving my pennies to come again, and would recommend to all my friends who are serious about discovering themselves And finding a path to wellness. It really is sensational.
I arrived a mess. And flew home calm, peaceful and the absolute best version of myself, 2 weeks on and I'm still committed to the vision, but I would say that the transition to a victorian winter and 3 kids on school holidays took the shine off a few of my new goals- like keeping up the sunrise qi gong!
Just go with an open mind- you will love it!

I was completely depleted, Gwinganna was my sanctuary to heal. After giving birth prematurely to a sick baby, battling post natal depression, sleep deprivation and grieving the sudden loss of a loved one, I had nothing left to give. The first two days were spent in bed – unwell, sleeping and crying, only to crawl out of my room at meal times. Mid-week (I booked the 7 day Detox), I finally started to feel energised. I owe this to a combination of clean nutritious foods, quality sleep, being in nature, rest and slow movement (I chose mostly Yin based activities). I whole heartedly believe this helped to restore hormonal balance and activate a positive shift in my body.

A turning point was a therapy called The Journey with Megan, this made me feel lighter and the weight of what my body had carried over the last 12 months started to fade away. Abyhang Fusion gave me the TLC I needed, it warmed my body and was utterly nurturing.

The end of the week saw lots of smiles (not just for me but other guests), my skin was clear, my eyes were brighter and as I looked in the mirror I could finally start to see ‘me’. I left a better wife, better daughter, better friend and ultimately a better mother. The guilt of leaving my baby to come to Gwinganna at the start of the week vanished when I left, because what I gained from my stay was what had been missing before I arrived.

Thank you Gwinganna for giving me my glow back.

I loved my week Detox retreat at Gwinganna. While reading some of the other reviews I felt many of the complaints stemmed from lack of planning on the part of the guest. Perhaps the message that if you want certain treatments it is a good idea to book in advance does not come through strongly enough.

My booking was easy, and I booked all treatments I wanted in advance and got all of them. I also booked an extra couple while I was there and had no problem getting what I wanted. I found the treatments excellent and the environment of the spa facility gorgeous and relaxing.

I took the shuttle from the airport after having to overnight at a motel in Coolangatta, no drama as the shuttle system for Golden Door Elysia works the same way. On arrival I was shown to my room promptly and it was very nice and spacious. I loved my personal balcony, looking out into the bush. The bed was huge and comfortable, and a cosy sitting area was a great place to dream. The bathroom could use an upgrade as I found the layout of the counter space in the Mudbrick very inconvenient. One issue I did have is that with the rain the main door to the Mudbrick house swelled shut so we were not woken in the morning, and it took hours for anyone to do anything about it. As a result we missed an entire morning of activities and were not offered anything as compensation. Better coordination between "casual" workers and front desk/maintenance staff would help.

The facilities at the retreat were excellent, great pools, gym, yoga and exercise rooms. There was plenty of equipment and plenty of space for all activities. I did not mind the group thing as I have found most health retreats to be the same. This should not be mistaken for a spa resort, it has a different purpose.

The lectures were very interesting and informative. I came home with some great information to help me on my journey to a healthier lifestyle.

The Detox programme helped me identify a couple of issues that were robbing me of my energy. I lost 2.5kg during the week without really exercising very much and felt much more energetic.

The food was very good and there seemed to be plenty left in the bowls when we got up from the table. While the size of the mains was controlled, there were heaps of salad and veggies to beef up the size of the meal. There were also bowls of fruit around for snacking as well as morning and afternoon tea. I never felt hungry.

On check out my bill was correct and I had no hassles.

I agree the power lines marching through the property detract a bit from it's beauty but what can be done about it? Governments seem to put those things up wherever they want.

Dear bluegoldhighlander

Thank you so much for taking time to review your stay with us. The information you have given will be very helpful to future guests.

We are so sorry to hear of your experience with the door and will be following up with our team. As you may know, the delightful heritage buildings are sometimes weather affected however we have never had this situation before.

You are right in that we inherited the power lines and have looked into any alternatives possible to relocate these. We also reassure guests regarding the effect of where these lines are located and the impact of them during a short stay with us compared to some common household appliances.

Many thanks again.

First few days l struggled coffee withdrawals ! however found it most difficult as there was no schedule given first thing in the morning , this agitated me but learnt to go with the flow .
The staff were incredibly nurturing and amazingly experienced sharing so many real stories .
I cried and cried so many times as they just did that to you because they were all so calm and peaceful Food was unreal !!!! Plenty .....

LEarnt to chew slower and drink no liquid through meal times wow this was hard.

This is more than just a fantastic 5 star spa retreat on top of a lush green subtropical hill with beautiful views of the Gold Coast. It's a place of serenity and healing where the staff live and breath the life that we all aspire to.
I took my weary little body and heart to the 5 day Optimal Wellness retreat and came away totally refreshed - both mind and body.
The accommodation was great, but you don't spend much time in your room. Altho.... if you love stunningly gorgeous views, don't mind being a little away from the centre, and have someone to go with, see if you can stretch your budget for a villa. It would be awesome, the little heated infinity pool on the deck would be an amazing place to sit each night.
The gourmet meals were plentiful and delicious and made with a passion and enthusiasm for food that nourishes the body.
The choices each day to explore the property or try different forms of exercise were great. I was amazed that I actually liked things that I thought I wouldn't.
The seminars were inspiring.
The shared experience was wonderful for creating new friendships.
Go with no expectations, an open heart, and just go with the flow....and take away a little of the magic that is Gwinganna in your soul....
