“Enchanting and tranquil experience”
Reviewed 26 August 2007

We stayed for 3 nights and had a lovely time. From the excellent breakfast to friendly hosts, tranquil location and comfortable rooms, Church Farm is great for a relaxing break or as a base to explore the Usk and Wye valleys. Thoroughly recommended.

Church Farm is a delightful 16th century property which was apparently a working Welsh farm until recently. It is tucked away in a peaceful valley close to the charming town of Usk and the only sounds are from farm livestock. A few hundred yards away is the Church of St Jerome which is famous for it's alleged association with the Knights Templars and for it's unique medieval carved oak rood screen. There are also local whispers of " The Green Man " ! The farm is conveniently located for exploring several castles situated in the vicinity and for visiting the annual flower festival in Usk. It is an ideal base for a walking or cycling holiday and the attractions of historic Cardiff lie within easy driving distance.

Lyn, who was born in the farm, and Bill Savage have recently completed a total renovation of the property and now offer very comfortable B&B accommodation at competitive rates. They are very friendly and amiable hosts who can offer advice on all things local, including restaurants and gastro pubs. The letting bedrooms have TV and tea/coffee making facilities. An exceptionally comfortable private sitting room is provided for guests and a heated swimming pool is available during the Summer months. Breakfasts are of the traditional Welsh farm variety and include eggs from the owner's own chickens.

My wife and I have stayed at the farm on several occasions and can recommend it without hesitation. We only wish we knew somewhere of a similar standard in the York area, where we visit frequently. Any suggestions gratefully received.
