“An enjoyable and comfortable experience.”
Reviewed 20 August 2008

I made a last minute decision to visit the Christchurch and surrounding areas.

I was recommended to use this B & B, as it was taken over by new owners at the end of 2007 and is therefore now very much improved.

I was so pleased with everything.

A most pleasant and enjoyable experience.

A spotless room, a super breakfast and a delightful family, who were extremely hospitable and willing to put themselves out for their guests.

EXCELLENT - TO BE RECOMMENDED

Great little B and B. Needed to be close to the Chewton Glen hotel for a wedding which was a 5 min car drive away.

We stayed in room 3, which was up a narrow staircase. Room was a decent size and had a good power shower and whirlpool corner bath.

Cooked breakfast was lovely. Check out time is 10am.

Excellent B&B. New owners this year - v. friendly and welcoming. Luxury room upstairs decent size room, bed and bathroom (with bath and whirlpool although this feature can;t be used after 10pm - fair enough). Breakfasts large and variable, and can be discussed with owner to get what you want. Plenty to cater for vegetarians as well. An excellent place to stay to start a Dorset visit.

Just returned from a very relaxing, comfortable 3 nights staying at Chewton Edge. We chose the 'deluxe' room with large ensuite and jacuzzi.
The house and room were spotlessly clean and the breakfasts were delicious.
There was a little traffic noise from the nearby road but certainly not enough to disturb us.
Having read the earlier reviews it seems that most of the negative comments have come from patrons who stayed under previous management. New owners Helen and Graeme were exemplary hosts and it would be a shame if they were tainted by earlier bad reviews that were attrubuted to the previous owners.
We certainly hope to visit again.

Fantastic!! We booked at the last minute. Even though the new owners had only been in the premises for less than a month, they were still happy to fit us in. The room we stayed in has changed from last time we stayed, being redecorated and has been very much improved.
Helen and Graham Neal are great hosts and we were made to feel like part of the family.
My wife and I would strongly recommend staying at this B&B and will be back without a shadow of a doubt.

When we arrived at the Chewton Edge Guesthouse, the place was deserted, though there was a sign on the door with a mobile number. Called this, no answer, left message. After a while, sent text. The owner called back and said she could not be back for some hours as she was at the hairdresser! Finally she came back. Asked if she knew anything about buses running to Christchurch: she acted as though we were asking a bizzare question and professed that there were none (it turned out that there were).
First night was fine. Breakfast was not vegi-friendly.
We went out in the morning, and returned to get ready for the wedding we were going to that afternoon. Half way through my shower, my hair full of conditioner, the shower stopped working. My partner went to tell the owner, she came in complaining about us 'walking about in the night' (we may have gone from bed to bathroom at some point, but that was it!) and failed after several attempts to fix the shower. We ended up washing our hair in the sink, in cold water. The room was supposedly superior, but as the water would not work to fill the jaccuzi, that was pretty redundant. Slightly scummy, we eventually got to the wedding.
Other, older guests, friends of the groom's parents, told us that the owner confided in them what a relief it was that they were 'not young,' like the rest of the guests. We were late 20s/30s - not exactly rampant noisy teenagers!
Morning after, shower again cut out mid-way through. This time we were 'allowed,' as though as a great favour, to use a downstairs shower (would have been useful the day before as we prepared for the wedding!)
When I suggested money was knocked off our bill, as essential aspects of our accomodation were defunct, the owner refused.
The surrounding area was lovely. Just be careful where you stay....

The B&B itself is ideally placed for day-trips to the Isle of Wight (via Lymington), Christchruch, Bournemouth, The New Forest and the National Car Museum at Beaulieu (which is well worth a visit if you’ve never been).

My fiancée and I stayed in the 'Deluxe bedroom'. For just a few pounds more, we got the only room on the top floor and a Jacuzzi.

The landlady and B&B staff were pleasant enough and the breakfast was lovely.

On the downside, the B&B is on the well travelled road so for those expecting or used to a quiet cul-de-sac like location, there is a small degree of traffic noise. In addition, the shower was not fit for purpose during our visit. The landlady warned us that they had had trouble with the shower overflowing onto the floor and down into the hallway below. A simple rescaling/replacing of the shower head would have fixed this problem but unfortunately, the shower stopped working altogether whilst my fiancée was washing her hair!

All in all, if they can fix their hot water supply/shower problem I'd gladly reconsider a return visit and increase the mark from average.
