“Hard to imagine a better B&B experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 September 2013

We arrived late afternoon after a three hour drive from Holyhead ferry terminal. Coming to the gate of the long private drive was extremely encouraging. Quintessentially English in an idyllic rural setting, perfectly peaceful and beautiful. A magnificent stallion in the paddock, a stunning labrador to greet us. Chickens and ducks wandered around in front of the stables. The house itself is a gracious Georgian residence. Izzy's warm welcome put immediately in the right frame of mind to enjoy the experience. Stepping inside, the spacious entrance hall led to a delightful drawing room where afternoon tea and a huge home made sponge cake appeared. We stayed in the blue room, which was wonderfully appointed. The bed was soft and enormous. A decanter of sherry, tea and coffee making ingredients,(including fresh milk in a fridge on the landing) still and sparkling water were all available. Attention to detail was outstanding. Breakfast was wonderful; smoked haddock and a poached duck egg, and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were first class. We regret only staying one night, I felt quite changed by the experience, where a night stop
became something very special, and a highlight of our trip.

Room Tip: All rooms I saw were beautifully appointed.

We arrived in the afternoon to be greater by Izzy and her 2dogs the dogs were very well behaved and not allowed upstairs or in the dinning room or lounge. On arrival we had Tea and carrot cake (home made) We stayed in the Green room very well appointed with fresh flowers on the sideboard a decanter of sherry a very comfortable ,large bed. television,.Ensuite bathroom with a large stand alone double ended bath, shower all very new and comfortable.
Izzy made us feel very welcome in her home. Breakfast was a choice of full English ,smoked haddock and duck egg scrambled egg. Once or twice a week Izzy cooks a wonderfully evening meal which I was very pleased we decided to book.
Izzy also gave us good advice on places to go and see, and more importantly to eat.
THANKS IZZY a brilliant weekend.

We have just thoroughly enjoyed a great three night stay in the Yellow Room. Like just about everyone else we can’t really recommend the Old Rectory too highly.

On arrival, we were warmly greeted by Izzy and the two friendly dogs, followed by tea and home-made cake.

The property exudes charm and character. It is set in lovely grounds with amazing views, featuring orchard, paddocks, vegetable garden, woods and formal gardens.

The Yellow Room has a private bathroom, a few steps away across the top of the staircase, which was large with quality towels, a claw foot slipper bath and a large powerful shower. The bedroom was well appointed and spotless, the in-room tray of tea, coffee with cafetiere, home-made cookies, sherry, chocolates etc were all delicious and overall more the sort of thing to be found in upscale hotels. We had a bay window overlooking the gravel drive and the very smart stable block. On our walks in the grounds we met the chickens, ducks, dogs and horses.

We must highlight “Tarmac” the black Labrador who is a star attraction, we considered smuggling him out in our car when we left.

During our stay we tried the full English Breakfast and also the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Both were great, the full English well and truly sets you up for the day ahead (no lunch possible!)

We had booked the dinner offered on our first night at £30 per head which was very good value, including a couple of glasses of cava then an excellent home cooked three course meal of a really excellent standard.

There are two pubs nearby offering food, we would thoroughly recommend The Boyne Arms which had great food and service.

If you venture to Ludlow then you are spoilt for choice.

The Old Rectory is elegantly furnished with nice touches everywhere, no creature comforts are missing. A big thanks to Izzy and Andy and the team for everything. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning.

We stayed here from the 20th to 23rd September as we wanted to take our horse on holiday with us, and after reading reviews we booked and we were not disappointed. We also booked a local photographer to take pictures of us in our wedding gear with our horse. Upon arrival the stable was ready, with a huge haynet and he had his own paddock with lovely long grass. We also had tea and carrot cake waiting for us on the terrace. Izzy was extremely welcoming as were the beautiful bella and tarmac! We booked the yellow room which overlooked the stable yard and it is a beautiful room with a gorgeous bathroom. It had tea and coffee making facilities along with some goodies. We had the perfect setting for our wedding photo shoot and Izzy was fantastic in helping us get ready for it. The hacking was also really good, great bridle paths and open stretches of land for us to gallop across. We really didn't want to come home and we will definitely stay again, by far the best place we have ever stayed and we also met some lovely people while we there. Hugs to bella, tarmac, bertie, connor and the stunning lucky boy xx

Room Tip: All rooms are exceptional. The yellow room has a separate bathroom but all you have to do is walk do...

We stayed 2 nights 13/14th September 2013 and booked the Green Room......Everything from start to finish was perfect, our host, Margaret (the owners were away but they need not worry) was such a wonderful, friendly host, everything that has been said in other reviews is correct and you couldn't possibly find any other place in the area that can hope to offer the most superior level of service we received in a warm & friendly atmosphere in the most beautiful Georgian house and grounds. We found their breakfasts delicious and thoroughly enjoyed our 5 course evening meal we shared with another couple who were also enjoying their short break there. Fresh fruit & vegetables were from their garden too. The Green room, we believe, is the best & largest of the rooms and has the added benefit of a settee to relax on. The bed is extremely comfortable and the bathroom is gorgeous, it seems everything is catered for one's every need here. The family dogs are so well behaved and it was lovely to be welcomed by them & were happy to be fussed over. We will definitely be returning again.

Room Tip: The Green Room is really special but peeked into the Blue Room which was slightly smaller but looked...

The Old Rectory is a beautiful Georgian house set in a large mature garden with views to the hills beyond. We stayed for two nights in August and enjoyed the peace and quiet in comfort. On arrival we were welcomed with tea and scones with homemade jam and cream in the garden. The family dogs greeted us warmly as did our hosts. The Blue Room was large, elegantly furnished and very comfortable. Breakfasts consisted of fresh fruit, including figs, yogurts and cereals followed by a choice of full English, eggs with smoked salmon, haddock etc. All food was beautifully cooked, fresh and plentiful. A wonderful place to visit - don't miss La Becasse restaurant in nearby Ludlow. Dizzy Barnard was most helpful in arranging restaurant bookings and taxis for us. A very special b and b!

Room Tip: Blue Room was fab. Lovely bath with decent shower. Comfy bed.

We've just visited our favourite B&B for 3 days, and as the title says, The old Rectory is " still the best"! We stayed in the green room this time, which we were delighted with. It is a very spacious and elegant room, with lovely views out over the garden, a great bathroom and a huge sumptuously comfortable bed! We were tired and needing a rest aswell as time out and about enjoying the beautiful area, and the extra space of the room with the settee and seating area made it a lovely peaceful place to retreat back to, to read and chill out before going out again to one of the many excellent eateries of Ludlow. As always, the breakfasts were wonderful, the conversations interesting and wide ranging, and the welcome from people and dogs alike, warm. It really is a gem of a place.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful, all have all the luxurious extra touches like fresh flowers, large extr...
